During some snow removal yesterday, my tractor started gushing hydraulic fluid around my feet. After some disassembly, it looks like it's coming past a seal in the steering column. (circled in red) How do I remove the column and u-joint to get access to it? Do I need to remove the steering control block below to access it? Thanks in advance for any help/feedback.

Looking at some drawings, that tube and thick plate the steering shaft assembly goes into is called the steering support, which is mounted on top of the power steering unit. That control block is mounted to the power steering unit.

It looks as though there is a spring pin in the lower yolk of the steering shaft assembly痴 universal joint, get that pin out and the shaft should pull out.

However,
I believe your leak is coming from the drive end of your power steering unit. The oil is just pushing up through the steering support tube. The good news is, it appears as though if you remove the 4 large bolts in that thick flange of the steering support that hold up the steering unit, and remove the 4 hoses that go into the control block, the Steering unit should slide right down off the steering shaft, then you can change the seals in it, or take it in to be serviced.

Sorry about the trouble, how much oil did you lose?

Looking closer, there may not be enough room to remove the steering unit out from under the steering support, that may have to be unbolted as well. Let us know if you have room, If not, I'll try to dig us some more specific drawings.

Thank you so much for your advice. I lost about 2 gals. of fluid traveling back to my garage to take the tractor apart. I got the steering column out by removing the steering column support. It looks like you are correct about the replacement of the seals on the power steering unit. The steering shaft assembly looks like it has been holding water for years and eroded some of the steel inside. The grease was solidified and there was only some remnants of ball bearings.

I'll pull the power steering unit out and, I think I will try to rebuild what looks necessary. I have a shop manual on CD for the DK 35 & 45 tractors but it there are no parts breakdown. Do you know of a place on the web I can download it? Thanks again.

I've got the manual for the EX35, 40, 45, and 50, which is very similar to the DKse series, I believe its the same tractor but for the Aussie market. There are a few differences, but minor. I have yet to get the proper DKse manual in PDF that I personally require either.

The links for downloading these things come and go, I just tried to look up the old link where I downloaded the EX manual and its no longer functioning. There are a number of websites I have seen that sell these manual for around $10, but I have not tried them myself, perhaps someone will chime in and give you a good trustworthy link. My EX manual is 320mb and much to large to send.

But for the sake of helping a bit, heres a screenshot of the steering pump, exploded.

Thanks for that diagram It's very helpful. I would love to get a copy of the manual you have. I have a DK34 & 45 cd manual but it's not very detailed and doesn't have diagrams like yours does. If you have time you could download your file to box.com or some other file storage site (they take very large files) and send me a link to it. (john@hondrogen.com). I would be very grateful.
Cheers!

The quality of the Kioti service manuals varies a LOT, with the most recent being the best, at least in terms of detail. I found errors in both the service manual and owners manual for my DK45s, so be alert . Sometimes Kioti issues revised manuals but it's hard to know if the manual you have is the most recent. You should be able to order manuals through any Kioti dealer.

I don't think you need a paper parts manual, just go to one of the dealer online sites, like this one from MIE. The paper manuals are expensive, big, heavy, and are not updated like the free online version. By the way, the "quick search" is useless so use the "parts by model" menu.

Occasionally, digital versions of manuals were posted on foreign web sites (I've seen this from Australia, France, and Germany). Interestingly, they were all in English. But they each became inaccessible (taken down password protected, etc.) after a time. I haven't seen actual SE manuals online but I'm told the EX model is almost identical; I can't confirm this as I don't have an SE model.

Good luck with your problem.
