What is it??? Some kind of tiedown?

I was given a half dozen of these. What is it? Rated capacity?

Thanks. Similar appearance, but I don't think their origin was related to farming.

I have two batches, all identical. All too clean to have ever been on the ground like that. First few, Dad got years ago at a yard sale in the city, in a 'miscellaneous' box. My recent half dozen: from a friend who bids government surplus auctions - so likely from the local urban university's maintenance shop - along with some clevises, cables, rigging, similar to what a shop would attach to an engine or a big welder, to hoist it. My first guess is these were on some sort of inbound shipment, then never used again.

This explains a lot.
They are either something that costs a lot but serves no useful purpose OR where the perfunctory flunky with a clipboard hangs the clipboard

It reminds me of a type of very heavy curtain hook, perhaps for a welding or foundry 'screen'.

A metal horizontal pole for a rod. The loops through/along the rod and the clip-hooks suspending a leather curtain?

That they would work for. The way they are made and materials used should preclude them from anything that requires strength.

Looks like its intended to let you hang a parachute from a line to let it dry perhaps? I cant find a NSN listing it or anything other than a few ebay lots.
