Just checking to see why the moderator has not closed this tedious discussion!

Granted the thread is pointless. Probably should be moved to Friendly Politics.

sure several of the aside posts are pointless but what started as a way to close an open discussion with a member with a standing as formidable as Egon's...deserves some consideration...
...Especially since the once beyond reproach Egon has been accused of being a troll...IMO we need to at least give him a chance to defend...

So why don't you just get it over with and ask him what the answer to his question is?

During an ice age with huge ice sheets developing large amounts of precipitation are required. To get this precipitation it requires lots of heat and open water. As the ice age continues precipitation decreases due to less open water and the ice formation begins a slow reversal with an exponential factor in rate.

The original question WAS answered in the original thread...so all that's left is the trolling question...

I think this is one of the more reasonable things I have read here.

Has anyone in the frost belt - not seen a change in first and last frost dates in the last 30 years? We've had a change for fall frost dates by a month plus!
What Iv noticed is a seasonal change in the ice on our lake. Ice coverage has been increasingly short term. This early cold spell has it iced in real well. Very unusual. Is it the weather? Almost definitely - - its a strange quirk for sure. Ts up and its melting now. Well see how it acts the rest of the winter.

I garden and I look at seed catalogs. I did notice that my area of central Maine which had previously been a zone 4 (though zone 3 was more realistic), in the seed catalogs had been changed to a zone 5 due to the warmer temp.
Across the country that zone change looks to have also happened. Zones are how one chooses the appropriate shrubs, plants to purchase that will survive the local conditions. That could bust a company commercially if it was in error. I noticed this to be the case for all of the seed catalogs. This happened several years ago. (Business is already making the adjustments needed due to global warming, while we debate it!)

This is an interesting story I came across today. Winter Olympics athletes travel thousands of miles for new training spots due to melting glaciers Winter Olympics athletes travel thousands of miles for new training spots due to melting glaciers
