Flu bug has gotten so many around here.

Hate to be paranoid, but my wife has advanced COPD, using oxygen a great deal of the time, etc. and she's scheduled for surgery on the first for arthritis caused back problems. She'll have a battery powered nerve stimulator installed/implanted. So with so many cases of the flu, and since the cases are most severe when the victim is elderly and/or has other underlying health problem, and since she fits both of those scenarios, I'm kind of trying to keep her home and away from others for the next couple of weeks.

Normally, I don't think we'd mind staying in too much, but since this week, the elder of our two daughters, our next door neighbor, my wife's sister, and I all have birthdays, so folks were hoping for a get together at a restaurant somewhere.

We are still getting some snow showers this morning. It's 13* and going up to the mid 20' later with a chance of some sun.

It looks like we got about 6-8 more inches of overnight. I moved some of it around yesterday, I'll need to go out and do it again today.

daugen... I think the guy with the snowmobile pic was Cat Fever. I haven't seen him on here for quite awhile. But I'll try and get some pics of snow if you like.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Can you hook your winch line to a tree, or something solid, and try just backing up to unreel your line?

Unfortunately, I cannot do that. The broken line is too short and just hanging there. Also, the jam was tight enough to break the cable. So, I have now removed the winch, which was a big PITA, and I will just have to cut the cable with a hacksaw and unravel it.

Good morning everyone. The stove fed, more wood in (not that it will be needed), coffee beans ground and brewed and now poured. The sun feels good.

It appears that the temperatures never dipped below 32F last night. It was 34 when I first checked 37F now. It should make it to the low 40F's later today.

Sodamo- I wish you safe flights and decent flying weather during your travels.

Buppies- I agree about the shirt sleeves and the weather pattern; especially the end of the month possibilities.

I am able to take both the flu and pneumonia vaccines. I am not a happy camper around people who openly drip, sneeze, cough, and "hack" any time of year especially during flu season. This year's virus is particularly virulent.

Nothing really planned for today except for the diesel fuel/newspaper run, I will probably fall asleep in front of the TV "watching"/"listening to" the football game. I am not a real fan of professional "entertainment"/"sports." However I do like Big 10 football. PennState has been messing with my nerves and BP for years; seizing defeat from the jaws of victory more times than I care to remember.

I was actually fairly relaxed coming home yesterday, the guy was acting a little suspiciously for a few days, if you recall, I said a few days ago I was getting bad vibes. Had a nice trip and some catfish!

35 here, a bit overcast. Going out for lunch in a bit. Maybe a harbor freight run?

I had a flu shot but still got a variety of misery. I was down for almost 2 weeks. I ended up getting steroids, antibiotics. When I went to the clinic, I had to wait for 90 minutes to see a doc. Worst case of it I’ve ever had.

39F and cloudy, currently under a Dense Fog Advisory ... visibility 1/8 of a mile or less. High today of 45F, with a 50% chance of rain.

Got first coat of mud put up on closet side of door yesterday.

After that I started sanding the lumber for the tank racks using the Makita 1/4 sheet sander. Unfortunately the clamps that hold the sandpaper to the pad are very weak and will not grip allowing the sandpaper to slide off.

So I ran down to HF with my 20% off coupon and picked up their better 1/4 sheet sander. Seems to be a fairly decent piece ... the clamps hold the paper securely and it is a lot smoother than the old Makita.

Ended up getting about 4 boards mostly sanded out of about 30 ... so it's gonna be a while.

More sanding on the menu for today ... at least until I hear otherwise.

Eric, never heard of anyone eating fox, panther and bobcat, but not fox. Don't see why it would not be as good as any other. I have even heard of people eating rats, said it was just like squirrel.

Sodamo, Welcome to Va, again.

:) Ed

300UGUY- I hope that you are now off the steroids (Prednisone?) and are recovering/recovered. Powerful medications = powerful side effects.

I am no Dr or epidemiologist, but the way this flu is killing all age groups on a national scale it seems that the virus has mutated and the existing batch of vaccines are no longer as effective.

I do believe that some day some pandemic event  will wipe out a lot of people.

I found my Senior Federal Park Pass in the glove box of my wife's Subaru. Figures, the day I find it the government shuts down and I can't use it.

I thought I read that that the entrance gates to the National Parks would not be staffed during this shutdown, so there's no entrance fee and nobody needs a Senior Federal Park Pass.

Government shutdown: Alcatraz, Yosemite remain open
