Neighbor Tractor Accident

I hate driving in the left lane, when I need to I get the heck outta there ASAP. But I am one that drives at the speed limit, not over. I figure that is why they call it the speed LIMIT.

If you ride with them an oft heard comment is "I'm doing the speed limit, they don't need to pass"... completely disregarding another law which states "Keep right except to pass." One law we have here which would be hard to enforce, but good to be on the books; Except when passing on the right is permitted, the operator of passed vehicle: B. May not increase speed until completely overtaken by the passing vehicle"

And that's what differentiates the selfish mindset from my "do not impact others" mindset. They are fine altering the actions of others because they are self-righteous. I strive to do my own thing and let them do theirs. That type of thinking is usually something that permeates much of their life and thought process. Here in the nanny state of MN we experience the effects of that all the time. Someone else dreamed up a rule or restriction they feel is appropriate for others and caused it to become law. To me it is a sign of someone who is not confident in their own ability to make rational decisions.

That's what I thought. Lowest speed you can go unless you're coming to a stop or turning.

That made me think of this:

Sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeding drivers, a
State Police Officer sees a car puttering along at 22 MPH.

He thinks to himself, "This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!" So
he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over.

Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies-two in the
front seat and three in the back-wide eyed and white as ghosts. The
driver, obviously confused, says to him, "Officer, I don't understand, I
was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?"

"Ma'am," the officer replies, "you weren't speeding, but you should know
that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other
drivers."

"Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit
exactly...Twenty- two miles an hour!" the old woman says a bit proudly.

The State Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle explains to her that
"22" was the route number, not the speed limit.

A bit embarrassed, the woman grinned and thanked the officer for pointing
out her error.

"But before I let you go, Ma'am, I have to ask... Is everyone in this car
OK? These women seem awfully shaken and they haven't muttered a single peep
this whole time," the officer asks.

"Oh, they'll be all right in a minute officer. We just got off Route 119."

I always thought that was just a suggestion, and especially not applicable during the early morning hours when normal people are asleep. The Deputy Sheriff who wrote me a ticket about 10 years ago didn't seem to see that way though.
