How To Buy A New Chevrolet Truck?

/ How To Buy A New Chevrolet Truck? #51
Well, I have had my problems, but, to me, there is no alternative.
That is easily debated, which , I do not care to do,,

When I brought it home, the wife jumped in,, we rode down our rural paved road.
She said,,,
" The ride is so nice, I should have brought a pillow, I could fall asleep!! "

That said,, I purchased a 2018 Silverado Crew Cab,2500HD Alaskan,,,
GCWR of 21,000 pounds, a few more pounds, you will need a CDL to drive the thing,,,maybe??
(Would it need air brakes at over 26,000 pounds?? :confused2:)

My alternative was this white one,,,
I ended up paying 10% more than the price of the white one,,
and I got the Snow Plow Package, tires and wheels, spray in bed liner, crew versus double cab,,, AND,,,
THE Kodiak Alaskan decal!!
(My grandchildren really like the decal, they have spotted Pop Pop 3 times already! :dance1:)

Well Rowdy I sure agree with you, except I can't make the change to the new black wheels. Too stylin' for me.
I actually like the work truck look, the silver wheels aren't bad, and absolutely like cloth seats, but those trucks often don't have some of the other features I really want.
I've always wanted a loaded cloth interior with a work truck exterior.
Am tired of sliding around on perforated leather seats. Yes cold air blowing on my rear in the summer is nice but I really can live without it.
On long trips I'm constantly having to reposition myself after sliding down the seat. Maybe it's just me. I need more grip to the seat.

I really like the new Ram, it still has the only full airbag suspension as mine does, and the ride is simply more isolated and more comfortable. No crashing noises, just thumps.
Big change for them putting all the chips down on a mild hybrid truck, but you still have a hemi. A hemi with an electric boost, not a turbo. GM tried it, not sure it
went or sold so well.

But these trucks have gotten so complicated with all these nifty features, and then you a slave and pig to be slaughtered at the dealership because absolutely no one else
can diagnose and fix their computer codes or proprietary emissions something.
I wonder when they will start charging us 50 bucks a year to maintain the truck computer...and I'm not kidding.

You say tomato, I say tomatoh. I'm a blue guy too.
Though now I took a break with a super dark green.

Pretty sure all these trucks accelerate very closely and haul pretty much the same thing. Huge discussions arise over specs, but for most of us,
the truck has more capacity than we normally use anyway. Ford 3.5 Ecoboost is likely the fastest, but they all suck gas. My hemi does...
Actually that's where I think Chevrolet does very well, gas mileage. But no matter what, there's a horsepower war going on.

The most popular truck in my small city is a Chevy Silverado. And most are white with at least 500 pounds of chrome on them.
This is truck town where 90 percent of the males drive trucks. And Silverados take the lead.
And so many guys buy diesels who have no use for the extra power, they just like the look.
Ok with me, the genuine joys of a free country.

Wow they still have a lever for the transfer case selection?

I visited a neighbor yesterday,, he was putting up new fence,,
I needed 4WD, and used the lever for the first time,, so that I could get through the mud.

It felt like 1967 all over again!!

Later yesterday afternoon,, I had to watch a YouTube video to learn how to open the hood.

Truly a meeting of old versus new ways!! :dance1:

I’ve heard it doesn’t do anything and it’s still an electric shift transfer case. True or not?

As far as they all suck gas, I beg to differ. It depends entirely on driving conditions and the driver. Watched a guy leave a 20 foot strip of rubber leaving a stop sign a couple days ago - not conducive to good mileage! No reason, I guess, than he wanted to because there was no other traffic in the area. After a lot of research I bought a supercab F150 with the 3.5 eco engine in May of 2016. As with all my vehicles, every fuel fillup is entered into an Excel spreadsheet so I know exactly what kind of mileage I'm getting and not just taking the word of the over-optimistic "lie-o-meter" in the dash. With just under 20,000 miles on the odometer the F150's overall average is 20.9 mpg and I consider that pretty darn good for what I do with it. Especially when compared to the 6.8 V10 in my E350 which gets an overall average of 11.9 mpg. The torque curve on the 3.5 eco is the closest thing to a diesel engine I've encountered - the torque comes on well below 2,000 rpm. (I've also got a Ram diesel dually.) The way it blows over 10-11,000 foot passes around here without shifting down just makes me smile.

In contrast to the area you live in, there are very few GM products around here. That's entirely GM's fault. Some years ago they put out an announcement that they would only be maintaining dealerships in larger metropolitan areas - and they meant it. There were two GM dealerships in Winnemucca, Nevada, the nearest town to me. GM closed both of them. Same with the town of Fallon, Nevada. Consequently, the nearest GM dealerships are in either Elko, Nevada, 130 miles to the east, or Reno, Nevada, 170 miles to the east...or Boise, Idaho - 250 miles to the north or Las Vegas, 550 miles to the south. So why would anyone around here buy a GM product? And have to take it all that distance every time it needs service, or to take care of a recall? Needless to say, those of use (including me) who owned GM products were not very happy with GM and we have long memories!
