Tractor
Compacts
Hi All,

I am going to look at a small tractor with FEL, I have not been told capacity, but I would guess about 300KG which is about 700lbs

Would like to be able to move pallets of stuff around and IBC cage with wood etc, and would be handy to lift this onto a box trailer (or off)

On a mid size tractor, would forks of the rear work ok, or is basically only for thing sin the open and no good to lift on/off a trailer ?

It will work but the total lift will be limited and maybe not enough to get to the trailer height. The other problem is that you usually want to tilt the forks and unless you have a hydraulic top link, it's not convenient.

Right,

Get a tractor with hydraulic top link......do you know if an International 434 has a hydraulic top link ?

I am going to look at a smaller Hinomoto with FEL in a week and it has forks for FEL, but no doubt wont be able to lift that much.

Unless someone added it, no it's not likely it has a hydraulic top link. If it has rear remotes (a place to hook up hydraulic hoses), which it may or may not, it's easy to add a hydraulic top link. If not, then it's substantially harder.

A normal 3 pt. set of forks will not have much lift height, you can find commercial 3 pt forks with a mast or make up your own, I used the mast off a 5000# capacity forklift and made a 3 pt mount.
I also use a hydraulic top link to be able to tilt.

That load is a full pallet of coal 1 ton, 2000#

While 3 pt forks are not as handy as those on a loader and do not have the lift height and tilt like FEL forks do they are very useful because of what they will lift. My 3 pt forks spend more time on my tractor than any other implement and are constantly in use for lifting many things. The hydraulic top link would be a nice addition but I do not have it.

Originally my forklift is able to lift 1.5 metric tone of load. But a tractor (m9000) may lift only 1/3 of a payload, because a forklift itself is very heavy. To increase the payload you should fit the wheeled supports under the forklift mast. Then you'll be able to lift 3 times greater payload comparing to FEL.

I have the same situation on my 32HP Ford.
The 3pt. forks will not be high enough to load most trailers, but they are VERY handy.
I have had more than 2500 lbs. on mine.
I also do have a set of FEL forks on a larger tractor, which of course will lift much higher.
I bought my 3pt. forks from Agri Supply.
Great people to deal with!
