One more question, Tubeless tires, do they need tubes when filled or will they hold fill without a tube? Is it best to start with regular tires and tubes to fill ?

Use tubes...even if they are tubeless tires.

If your going to move snow I recommend filling the tires. When I had my 1700 the tears were not filled and if I got 1 foot or snow or more it would push about 15 feet and stop. Not enough weight.

I just got a new pair of BKT tires for my 1710. Real happy with them. I thought they were a 6 ply, but they ended up being 8 ply. Which sits fine with me. More rubber to rot away

I don't know if this is true or not, but this is what my tire dealer told me. I had the beet juice in my garden tractor tires, and one of the valve stems came apart in such a way that the metal inner part just ejected from the outside and let the tire go flat and beet juice all over the place. Brought the tire to tire dealer and they said that the beet juice raises **** with valve stems and they see a lot of that. They use RV antifreeze, which doesn't stay fully liquid in the very cold weather but doesn't expand to cause problems with freezing. Right or wrong, I know not, but yeah, the beet juice is very expensive for sure. Since I don't really use the little Kubota in the winter, the fact that the stuff doesn't stay 100% liquid isn't a problem. Don't know if I'd do it with my all-year tractor, though, but the tire dealer should have some conception of what they are talking about, I would hope.

My 1710 came with diamond tread rear tires 13.5 x 16.1. Paired with the R4s on front I have plenty of traction and do about the same usage as you do (except I like to pull logs sometimes and having more traction would be nice). Mine are not filled. I do not have as steep of drive as you do but I plow it with no issues using momentum instead of brute force - it makes it a lot more fun. Moving a foot of snow is not an issue.

The big advantage is that I do not make tracks across my lawn with these flotation type tires. And when carrying logs, firewood, and other heavy loads they distribute the weight a lot better and do not cut up the ground like ag tires. Mine are still original tires but there are a lot of cracks and I am thinking that if I change I will go to a chevron tread I-3 (implement) flotation tire much like the AT101 on the lawnmowers. High flotation, good flex, yet lots of little bites. Loaded you will have more rubber on the ground than ag tires and less ground damage in softer areas.

This is what I have: 4AW381 Goodyear All Weather Traction R-3 13.6-16.1 D/8PR...

What I am thinking off for a little more traction without losing the flotation is a tire like this: 16.5L16.1 SL 6PR C American Farmer Traction Implement I-3 TL | OTRUSA.COM
This isn't the proper size as they are a little hard to find but my local ag dealer can get them for about $700/pair.

BTW - I agree - beet juice is a mess. I had it in my ZTR and will never use it again. It was a valve stem issue that got rid of it too. I never blamed it on the beet juice but I do not know that it wasn't the cause.

I have a 1620. Bought used replacement rims from Weaver compact tractor in PA. I bought new carlisle turf tires, 4 ply at Wal-Mart. They are tubeless tires, but I. Had tubes added so I could load them. Be sure the tubes have a liquid fill valve. I have a post about this, $ info at OTT. Weaver also has used tires. They dismantle tractors, some with decent tires.

BTW, Goodyear sold Ag Tire division to titan, goodyear is out of ag tire market, they do allow titan to use the name., but that may be a finite arrangement.

That is good to know because my regular tire dealer sells Goodyear, Michelin and Galaxy. Goodyear is advertising radials. Didn't thing Walmart sold tractor tires.
