I know a tire shop that "rounds down" if you don't need a receipt. :)

I believe it is in the franchise agreement with the correspondent bank of CC company...

We also have a lot of $10 minimum to use credit card merchants here too... but cash isn't King either because they only accept $20 bills and smaller... forget about checks.

The county does charge a hefty fee when paying taxes by Credit Card... figure they must have a deal that allows this.

Speaking of Credit Cards... I was picking up a food order for a board meeting and asked ahead of time if the establishment accepts Discover... said yes.

I go to pay and the card is declined... said not possible... call Discover and said no charge showing.

Manager comes in and says they do not accept Discover...

Well, we have a problem... $265 of hot and ready to go food and no way to pay for it.

I happened to have my check book with me and that is what we did... but they also do not accept checks... it was either that or walk out... owner said there is an ATM on the corner... but I don't and never have had an ATM...

Irrelevant. The CC company charges both.

I don't give a hoot what the CC company charges both merchants.
From ANY merchant, the cash customer and I are both paying the same total price at the register.
The cash customer is essentially funding my 2% rebate! (5% at grocery stores, gas stations, and drug stores)
I LOVE it!

I don't do the ATM either....in my opinion it is a bad idea, and some have a fee for use!
I carry about $200 cash, and it will last me several months.
EVERYTHING possible goes on my cash back credit cards.

I'm not sure that they charge merchants a % like they used to, or if they pay flat fees. While making medium to large purchases from small businesses I'll ask if they would rather have cash or if there was a discount for cash, and over the past few years 100% of the time they say it makes no difference to them cash vs CC. So I use the CC. I rarely ask anymore.

I know a lot of businesses, typically small locally owned, that rounds down a lot if you don't need a receipt.

Yep. I always make it clear I don't need the receipt before the merchant gets far into the pricing. :)

I had a bad experience with ATT autopay and will never use any autopay from any company again....

Yep. I did auto pay along time ago with an insurance company and spent way too much time get my money back when I changed companies. Twas painful but nothing like yours.

Auto pay is just asking for trouble at some point.

Bought my suretrac dump trailer on my CC.

Walked in with a wad of cash with every intent to get a cash deal".

Haggled on price......asked what kind of discount if I paid cash vs a check or cc.......sales manager said "we might be able to knock another $50 off."

No thanks.....I'll take my 2% on a $6k+ purchase.

Not sure if that is true or not. At least not for everything.

Maybe its the wording? They dont charge a higher price for the good/service......but they charge a "convince" fee for using a card.

Centurylink (phone/internet).....Delco Water......and Ohio BMV......And county treasurer for property taxes are the 4 bills that I do not pay with a card because the fee is higher than the perk

Our county offices allow use of a credit card, but add the % of merchants fee back in calling it a "convenience" fee.....I assume that is the legal way around charging more for the use of plastic.

Insurance company simply stopped accepting cards... you can mail them a check, but if you want to pay online, you have to give them direct access to your checking account like a debit card, putting in routing & account numbers to make payment.
