That time of year towns/cities start posting roads on weight limits because frost start to come out.
Heard today last Thursday next town over have posted all secondary to 6 ton, and probably won't remove the ban until late April...kicker is for one tractor dealer and 2 costumers,one tractor ready to be deliver from service to owner and the other tractor next week deliver back to costumer but now will have to wait.
So if your town/cities post the road better check about when posting remove if your planning on delivery.

Both owners do have the option getting tractor register putting on plate meeting delivery driver before secondary road driving home.

In many municipalities, local pick-up and deliveries are exempt from weight restrictions on the roads. That is roads, no exemption for weight restrictions on bridges, of course. Many dairy farmers would be in big trouble without them.

Is there any different regulation for the number of wheels?

These are different from the "normal" weight restrictions, they are posted locally by individual towns as the winter winds down and the temperatures rise. The frost that makes our normally crappy roads even crappier is "coming out" or melting, leaving a soft spot. The frost can be an easy 3' deep up here where the snow is kept off, and when it thaws, it does it from the top down. The resulting water that is released from the upper thawed layer does not penetrate (drain off) down through the still frozen lay below making what little pavement is there supported by mud. Winter is very hard on our old and mostly never built properly (base & drainage) roads up here. :D

The county road my driveway dumps onto is always posted. And yes, the sign they post has a whole list of variables. You would have to stop to read the list. Must be at least a dozen variables. I expect "posting" any day now.

Here theree are no 'exemptions' but one can get a permit from the road department for a trip or two.

I stuck my car in the middle of a gravel road one spring. "frost boil", car was down to the axle on the front.

In my area, the loggers and stone quarrymen are required to post a bond to get road permits. Money talks.
