Ballast Box vs Suitcase Weights - HeavyHitch Inbound!

I made a removable rack for my QH, it buried on the trailer from moving or would post pictures. Rack goes on with to pins. Weights came from Home Depot on-line. They are plastic encased concrete weight only 50# each and I have 10. That way I can adjust the needed weight instead of always packing the whole weight of a box or tank.

I took a plastic 55-gallon drum, drilled two 2 inch holes thru the sides (closer to the top), ran an old 3 point drawbar/stabilizer bar thru the holes in the sides. Filled the barrel with some old bags of cement I had sitting around. Then when it was full of cement I put and eyelet in the top for the top link. I now have a barrel that weighs in the neighborhood of 800 pounds. I really like how it sits close to the tractor so when I'm around my buildings it's not sticking out the back.

I am looking now for a Kubota ballast box for my B2650. Can’t seem to get a price on the Kubota web site. I think I will just call the dealer tomorrow. I did see one advertised for $259 with free shipping from Amazon Prime so may just do that. Spring is coming early here in Maine so I am getting antsy to get out in the orchard now.

I'm thinking of ditching my Kubota ballast box. I'd like something convenient that works with the Land Pride Quick Hitch. Something that makes it easy and quick as to avoid that "oh, it'll only take a minute... I don't need the ballast" type move. The rear weights on a heavy hitch could work well.

That's how I roll. I ordered two 8.5 inch long 5/8 316 stainless bolts, washers, and lock nuts for them just now. Plus a 6x36 inch strip of 1/6" adhesive backed rubber for the Heavy Hitch weight bar so the paint doesn't get scratched.
