Ni cad verses lithuim Ion

I replaced the nickle cadmium, NiCAD, battery in my tooth brush with nickle metal hydride, NiMH, as the original had stopped excepting a charge. It was just unsolder resolder the new battery and it worked with the same charger. The new battery had higher current capacity and charge so the a little faster and much longer lasting. Maybe as an alternative to Lithium?

I have found that in most cases, it is cheaper to buy a new tool with battery and charger than to replace the battery.

One good idea is to buy tools without batteries which Ryobi sells, and I have just 3 batteries for 6 tools, and I am never out of power. I don't use all the tools at once and don't need a battery for each one. It is cheaper to buy these batteryless and Chargerless tools. The batteries came with some of the tools when they were on sale for Christmas, and yes it is far cheaper to buy a tool on sale with battery and charger than just the batteries alone. I did wind up with 3 chargers which I don't need but one, but hey If one fails, then I will already have another. :)

I also standardized on Ryobi cordless tools for that reason. I leave one charger in my shop, the other one is in the bag with my drill/driver kit which is usually in my truck.
I think I still have one or two NiCads, but it's mostly L-I ones. Christmas is a good time to pick up extra batteries...HD usually has 2 packs for just over the price a single goes for the rest of the time.

Yep, Christmas is the time to buy. I have let my NiCads go dead and I don't plan to rebuild them either. It is Li-ion for me from now on. The advantages are just too great to do otherwise.

Another good time is Father's Day, at least around here.

All the Milwaukee stuff I bought is brushless too. The 12v fuel stuff is powerful and compact.

I have a few B&D firestorm tools which I am still reluctant to toss. I just bought a bunch of "clone" NiMH battery packs off amazon, since my B&D charger/conditioners are NiMH-compatible. So far, so good at least. The tools are no longer dead after sitting, and charges last a lot longer.

Anyone have any such suggestions for replacing B&D "slideon" Nicad 18v batteries with Lithium ones? My original batteries wouldn't do much any more. Bought 2 new ones (cause I have 2 chargers) that only worked good for maybe a year. Just bought 1 new one to be able to use our 2 chain saws and grass whip.

Have 40v Kobalt chain saw and grass whip that are superior, but we like the "gator" B&D chain saw, and the B&D grass whip fits nicely in my FEL; whereas, the Kobalt grass whip is too long.
