Kioti CS2210
Hey All,

I bought a CS2510 last fall to replace my JB445 mowing, etc. Looking to get subcompact for the FEL and so far very happy with the machine.

Happened on a Polaris UTV snowplow for a great deal ($200) so I have been plowing and it has worked great!

Anyway, 35 years with OMC Mustang Skidsteer that I ran on home heating oil - Kubota 3 cylinder 28 hp diesel power.

My question, after checking the manual and doing some searches, is - Can I run the Kioti on the home oil? Not sure if the newer engines require anything special that would make the heat oil not good.

I have been running highway grade diesel up until now but have a 275 g tank in my heated barn that I use for the skid steer.

All I have been able to find in the manual is "good quality non-lead diesel fuel".

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dalv

It's the sulphur content that matters. Ultra low sulphur is what is sold on road. I'm not sure if heating fuel is ultra low sulphur or not.

Talk to your fuel distributor.

Our local distributor sells three fuels but all are really the same except for the red dye added to the off highway and home heating oil.

By specification, the on highway used is the same spec as the off highway Ulsd, except the dye is added to identify than no road tax has been collected.

By spec, home heating oil is a wider cut, with a looser cleanliness, lower cetane allowed. Basically a looser, wider spec.

From a practical standpoint, not much home heating oil is sold anymore, so most distribution channels have standardized on the Ulsd , just labeled differently, which is ok because if the fuel meets off highway specs, it easily fits within the heating oil spec.

You should check with your local distributor. Though.

In the old days, there was some real junk , ie dirty and low cetane, sold as heating oil.

The heating oil will run in it. 2 things though:
1. It may have a really low cetane number and so may run rough
2. If your tractor has a particulate filter it may plug up faster

Thanks guys,
I think I'll run a few gallons thru and see if I notice any difference from the street juice.
Tractor is kept in heated barn so not worried about jelling during the colder weather.
I'll try to get a hold of the owner of the delivery company - small dealer that gets it from the supplier at the port.
Really appreciate the responses

Don’t forget the cleanliness spec, and lubricity. If your distributor is truly selling fuel that doesn’t meet the off highway specs, the common rail fuel systems in the late model tractors will not like it.

The old low pressure systems would tolerate crap fuel. Not true of the common rail system, with their higher pressures and closer tolerances.

Fortunately, most distribution networks have commonized heating oil with off highway Ulsd.

Again, check with your local distributor.

Another plus one on that. I also had a decomissioned heating oil tank with several hundred gallons that I moved to the barn when we got a new heating system. I ran an 80's Kubota with it but got nervous when I upgraded to my Bobcat. Our fuel dealer also gave the same version. It is the same ultra low sulfur fuel with added dye. I just changed the filter for the 400 hour service (about 70 hours of my own time) and things look great.

Is a CS2510 a mechanical injection, idi, old low pressure system? Most 25hp and under diesels are these days.

We used to have a lot of injectors fail on trucks with crdi. Our training instructor told us it was poor fuel causing them to fail.
The injectors were manufactured to European specs and their fuel was more refined.
One tank of poor quality fuel can cost you... Something to think about.
