Shredding last season's stubble so the Texas winter grass can have a fresh start.

Needed to get the camper out of the barn, but a little too muddy for the truck. Old faithful handled it just fine.IMG_2414[1].JPG

Rob - I don't know how far you skid your logs but when I "did" firewood and burned it here - I quit skidding and cut-to-length & split right where the tree fell. There is so much volcanic ash in the very topsoil here (Mt St Helens - 1980 ) that the crap trapped in the pine bark raised holly havoc with the chains on our chainsaws. I was having to sharpen 4, sometimes 5 times a day. Cut-where-it-fell procedure and I only had to sharpen at mid-day and end of the day - for the following days cutting.

Of course, I had a very heavy duty tandem axle trailer that we loaded the cut & split firewood into to bring to the woodshed.

Also - it doesn't look like the bark on the trees you are dragging would trap dirt & crap like pine does.

Generally, I just use the winch to skid them out where I can get at them with the tractor, then I pick them up and hold them over the wagon and they get cut to length right there,

I do very little of picking wood up off the ground!

Then the rounds get rolled right off the wagon right on to the splitters beam, and get pushed through the splitters 4-way wedge...

Darn - modern technology at work - for sure. That cut-to-length right in the bed of your trailer is VERY nice. The only "good" part about how I processed wood - it was 35 years ago and I was a lot younger. But my back hurt just as much after a day of huffing and grunting.

Firewood is hard work!! I have tried to cut out as much lifting as possible...

Split wood goes into half cord boxes that I move with the tractor,

after it's dry, it's moved with the tractor to the house,

to be thrown down into the basement next to the stove...

Very clever. You could almost be a New England Yankee.
