Can cruise control be set up to work in reverse. I use a 3pt snowblower on a long driveway and it would benefit the knee if I could use the cruise control.

I don't believe you can, as the cruise control is controlled by an electro magnet that simply holds the forward pedal in place magnetically when the cruise control is activated. Its a large round magnet you can see just under the deck plate when looking at the fwd/reverse, pedal linkages. And it only services the fwd pedal.

HOWEVER, depending on how ambitious/curious you are, I would imagine one could mount the electro magnet by the reverse pedal instead of the fwd pedal, assuming there is room to mount the magnet in this way. Just giving you cruise control in reverse.

Or, if you were extra ambitious, I'd wager one could purchase another magnet, and a simple selector switch, to wire up a fwd/reverse cruise control selector, with a magnet on both the fwd and reverse pedals. Cruise Magnet is part# T4158-68701, MIE has it for around $120 Parts Finder Michigan Iron & Equipment Morrice, MI (855) 265-459

i think theres more at play than just that. theres actually a cruise unit module . it has a bunch of input and output circuits. it looks quite complicated . but who knows.... maybe you only need a magnet and a position switch. you wouldnt want both magnets to be energized. IMG_2974.JPG

not sure what a sub change speed sensor is and whether it would work in reverse

The Sub-change speed sensor is the range shift sensor for the HST tractors, pin 12 and 8 of the cruise unit.

Circuit Diagram for Cruise Unit.jpg Pin Arrangement of cruise unit.jpg

But I'm not talking about changing any of the pin arrangements or splicing any of the interlock wires, none of which should mind if you are going in reverse, so long as the interlocks are met.

Interlocks, going around the diagram in laymen terms;
Pin 1 *12V power supply
Pin 9 *cruise magnet plugged in
Pin 21 *Engine started
Pin 11 *No Earth Faults
Pin 20 *Lamps Working
Pin 12, 8 *Range lever staying in position
Pin 16 *Alternator charging as usual
Pin 7 *PTO indication staying Engaged or Disengaged
Pin 5, 4 * Brakes disengaged and coupled together
Pin 2, 3 * Cruise control switch in the "on" position

I'm simply talking about moving the magnet physically, or installing another, where only one magnet will be activated at a time by a switch. I certainly don't mean to force this on anyone, just an idea. And I agree that a bit of caution is always a good thing.

I looked into it a little more. The magnet will be energized in reverse. What is missing is a piece of metal on the pedal bracket to engage the magnet. If I weld a piece of steel onto the pedal bracket reverse cruise will work. No electrical work involved.

Plenty of room there under the dkse tractors to modify like this. send us a picture of what you come up with if you do go for it.
