I find the Soy (milk) commercials hilarious. They aren't legally allowed to say "milk" anymore because it's not milk, so they just call it "Silk".
What is Silk? They never say what exactly it is! Almond ____?(What?) They say things like "Silk is Progress" , "Silk is Perfection". What the h*ll does that mean?

The hilarious part is I can just imagine a marketing meeting where their consultants tell them "NO! NO! NO! Do NOT mention the word juice. We CANNOT be associated with 'Nut Juice'. No way will people buy it!" :laughing:

Somewhere I read that almond milk has only about 4 ounces (or less) per half gallon of almond milk. I don't know what the rest is, maybe soy protein.

Always learning something new on TBN. But we buy the half gallon size and sometimes don't even use all of that before it spoils.
Another advantage of Lactose free milk is the ultra-pasteurization which kills all the bacteria normally in milk. I find that a half gallon of 2% fat milk will not spoil if kept for 2 weeks or more in my fridge. Regular milk might last a week.

Most definitely. IMHO pasteurizing tastes burnt compared to fresh, and typically has less fat/cream content. But NorTracNY said 'pastured' milk "when we could find it". One can find pasteurized milk anywhere as it is the standard, so I thought he was talking about something else. Grass (pasture) fed?

Yes, sorry. Grass fed not pasteurized. I'm not sure about the milk, but I know for meat, the 100% grass fed beef is different than grain finished or grain only.

You need better milk. Around here, there are two main milk plants, Byrne Dairy and Upstate. If we get Upstate milk it will generally good for a week after the sell-by date. Byrne Dairy milk is lucky if it makes it to the sell-by date before going bad.

I remember reading an article a few years back on this. A reporter was trying to find out what was in it. The companies said ask the almond milk industry organization and the organization said ask the companies. He had to go to companies in Britain. The laws there required more disclosure. I believe you're correct on the amount. It's basically flavored water with a few almonds and stuff to keep it from settling.

I'm told there are some experts getting paid a lot of money because they are able to sex the almonds. You know you can't get milk from all the almonds, right? :)

But this bacteria may be what is needed. Again, I haven't researched it much, but I got the impression from the doctor that the intolerance wouldn't disappear like it has. The pills really made a difference for me after the diagnosis and it lasted over a year, so I don't have reason to believe it was a bad diagnosis.

:laughing:And I thought maybe our situation was unique.:laughing: We also have a couple of local brands of milk at Walmart in addition to Borden's. And I only want whole milk; none of that 2% or less blue john. And the milk that lasts a long time in the refrigerator . . . . Walmart's house brand "Great Value". That's another reason I buy it, besides the lower price.

I just did a little search and based on the Great Britain lawsuit, almond milk typically contains only 2% almonds so a quart would only contain about .64 ounce of almond. The rest is water, sugar and flavoring/stabilizing ingredients. I was way off with the 4 oz.
