Anyone have a Gallagher Portafence fence charger and use it with an external 12v battery?

My rechargeable D cell batteries do not last long in it. They want up to about $35 for an adaptor kit to use a 12v battery. Don't think I need to spend this to get the adaptor kit. Just need to know where to connect the + and - connections from the battery into the charger. Been Googling and absolutely cannot find anything telling me this.

Follow the contact points of the batteries which you can already identify the positive and negative points on. Make sure your external battery is really close to the output of however the D cell batteries are arranged.

Not that easy. 2 cells go in one place, 2 more another place and a 5th and 6th in 2 other places. No one place is + and no one place is - for affixing a 12v battery to, to get the 12v to the system. The 6 D cells obviously go in series, but I have no ideal where the terminus is.

It's rated for 9 to 12v. You can buy a 12v battery adaptor but I searched web sites for more than an hour yesterday and could not find a one that showed how the battery adaptor was clipped in place.
