John Deere X300 Choke Issue

I have a JD X300 with Kawasaki FS541V engine. Only needs choke when it has sat for a while or cold. Problem is, the choke does not open back up when the choke lever returns from closed position. Everything I find seems to indicate a bad choke spring. Do I have to disassemble the carburetor to get at that? I'd love to fix it myself, but that may be swimming in the deep end of the pool for me. Any advice?

Go to page 47. This is not your engine, but I'm guessing that uses the same carb. Tells you how to check and adjust the carb and choke.

It could be a spring I suppose. I have one of these that the plastic choke shaft became deformed and bound in the bore. I pulled the plate and shaft and polished it before reassembly and it has been good since- about 2 years. MIU12545 looks to be the part number for the shaft.

Thanks to you all. Looks like it's doable. I've put up with it since I didn't often need the choke and when I did, I just popped the hood up and pushed it down. Now that I put a brush guard on it, that's not so simple.

I have the same problem on my X324 with choke not returning. I suspect its the plastic choke shaft is deformed like mentioned above, however I thought I would try this stronger spring fix first. Will this part MIU13934 fit my X324?
