Junked cars on my hunting property

When I worked in Saudi Arabia back in 1982 there were hundreds of fairly new and some old cars parked along the highway. Some Mercedes looked like all they had was a flat tire or two and just abandoned. I was told that some of the rich Saudi's would just abandon a car if it had a fender bender or in some cases just a flat tire and go buy a new one.

A few years later, I was told that the Saudi government picked all those cars up and took them to a steel mill to be melted down.

In 1990 they were still there. There's a hardball that runs the length of SA. It's littered with abandoned vehicles that broke down or wrecked. Wide open desert hiway with miles of visibility and vehicles collide....... Whole different driver mentality over there. Many Saudi's died when US military convoys showed up. They thought all they had to do was flash their lights and everybody would yield...... :confused3:

Wow, just checking back in expecting to find a couple of replies, not 43 of them lol. I am sure the car upside down is a '54 Plymouth, as this was pretty much verified by me posting a pic of the hood ornament on the antique cars forum.

I do wonder how/why someone thought it would be a great idea to push them off into the gulley?? Guess it seemed like a good idea at that time. There are three old homesites that I have found on this property as well, but the cars really aren't close to any of them. I have also found two cisterns on it, about 10-12 ft diameter, and about the same depth. One of them (or maybe both?) is lined with bricks/rocks/concrete. As I recall, they have a few very old appliances dumped in at least one of them. There are a couple other gullies I have found with junk dumped down in them too, but don't think there are any other cars there.

The owners are absentee, they are brothers, one living in CA and the other living in Texas. I think they do still have a few relatives living close to the land though, which is in the upstate area of SC. The family matriarch who lived in the VERY OLD two story colonial style family home on the same property, before passing away many years ago, was my first grade teacher. :) I will post a few more pic's when I get them offloaded from my phone to the PC.

Looking in the red car, what's that steel framework with the word STANDARD in the circle? Looks interesting. :scratchchin:

I noticed that too, I think it might have been the base to a pedal powered sewing machine? Does that sound about right??

Away from the cars sounds like a good place to go metal detecting...!

What's crazy is that I have several metal detectors, a couple of them are high end units, but I seldom have time to use them. I do plan to use them on that property at some point, but it will be one of my retirement hobbies, which is still a few years away.

Not surprising that close to Augusta. Didn't Richland county have the highest murder rate per capita in the US for a number of years

It is still a pretty high murder and crime rate.
