Trying to get clarification on a Part Description, and details on Shipping Options out of RockAuto.com

Not easy......

Does anybody have their email address ?

If you go to their page for "Contact", their email link requires a Mail Client to be set up (haven't run one in years....), and you can't talk to a human at their Corporate # unless you know the secret extension to use....

For the most part, I like their database - design and dataset. I do use it a lot just as a reference.

Like all Tech..... What can Go Wrong...... Go Wrong....... Great when it works !

Email sent, I'll see.... the questions are valid, and not really that complicated.... but am not holding my breath.... a lot of companies nowadaze don't want to pay to staff anybody between the VP and the Shipping Clerk.....

Ah Yep, don't waste any time emailing Rock.....

After the first non-useful response, I sent back:


I understand how to use your website - It ain't Cutting It ! For the decisions I need to make, I need someone to read and and respond to my original email below.

Pull up the listing I'm talking about, under Water Pumps - the Gates part has NO Description, the Ultra Power part says "ELECTRIC; AUX" <<<< That's it !

How am I supposed to make decisions based on missing or inaccurate descriptions ?

And got back:

"All of the information we have on the products we sell is listed on our website. We receive this information directly from the manufacturers of the products we sell, and have confidence that it is complete and accurate.

If you're not seeing the details you are looking for, we do not have them. That also means they are not important for fitment. The manufacturer always lists the details that will be important to determine if the part will fit your vehicle."

Not really all that long ago, you could call Rock and actually get somebody on the phone who knew something about Auto Parts.

Their shipping charges have really slowed my business with them. While they might have decent prices, once you get to checkout and the shipping gets added in, not so much... and they seem to enjoy stocking common parts needed together at different locations so you get hit with higher shipping... rant over.. carry on.

As we used to say in the Server (IT) game years ago.... TCO.... Total Cost of Ownership..... What's the Bottom Line ?

Shades of Gray.... historically, USA shipping was dirt cheap, at least compared to (admittedly obscene) Canadian rates.... things may have been creeping up down your way, and I'm never impressed when companies start playing games.....

They've brought some much needed competition to the Canadian market overall, but unfortunately, seem to have gotten rid of anybody who knows anything about parts...... another casualty of the Race to the Bottom....
