Somethng we ALL used to dream about when we were kids

My father bought a couple of dinosaur print fossils in South Hadley, MA when I was a kid. One in particular was quite striking in that it went through two layer of rock and was about six inches across. When we cleaned out my mothers house neither of us really wanted it so one of the auction crew offered us $100 for it -- sounds good. So in one of the great ironies of life, he slips while carrying it out to his car and drops it and it breaks. Millions of years in the making, seconds in the wrong hands.

In answer to the initial question, I dreamed of being a cowboy. Roy Rogers was my hero and I moved heaven and earth from 10 years old through my thirties to learn to ride, rope, and shoot. Even married Miss Rodeo America.

Never learned to rope very well but did spend a few long weekends at a friend's ranch in northern New Mexico rounding up cattle, branding calves, and drinking Coors in a bar with swinging doors [Elmer Rigony's Home of the Dago Cowboy, Roy, NM (seriously)]. Even forded the Pecos driving 1350 head -- one of the highlights of my life. Still have my boots and hat.

Good for you! Roy was my hero also, but I never tried to emulate him, at least his profession. For our 50th wedding anniversary, Sharn Jean made a shirt for me that has a Roy & Dale print. My pride and joy!

When I was growing up, a kid down the street always wanted to play Roy Rogers, always wanted to be Roy Rogers, and always tried to talk me into being the bad guy. What does Roy do to the bad guys in just about every episode or movie? Punches them out!

I quickly tired of Roy Rogers, so I suggested we play Sea Hunt, where I get to be Lloyd Bridges, take you down to the lake and hold your head underwater for a while... he quickly tired of that.

He not only punched out the bad guy, he would tackle them off their horse and engage in a tumbling fist fight and never lose his hat in the process.

I always dreamed that the ice cream truck would break down in front of my house and we would have all the ice cream we could eat.

There was what must have been an old dump in a swampy area we used to explore. We found tons of old glass medicine bottles. Someone, probably our parents, told us the were worthless so we didn't keep them. In fact, I think our parents told us not to play there. But we kept going back looking for "treasure".

I always dreamed that the ice cream truck would break down in front of my house and we would have all the ice cream we could eat.

When our kids were young, we told them it was the music truck... Listen! The music truck is driving by! And we'd dance around until it was gone. Several years later, the oldest comes home from grandma's house and gives us the what-for! Grandma bought her ice cream and she realized we'd lied the whole time. :confused3: :laughing:

Unlike 'Sky King' who always subdued the bad guy with a single karate chop to the back of the neck...
