Kioti NX 6010 Air filter(s) - One or two??

Did my 200 hr service today and went to change the air filter. I have a Wix 46489 and 46490, a smaller and bigger filter that "nest" together and fit into the space correctly. The filter I pulled out did not have an "inner" filter, just the bigger one, it was empty in the middle. I put in the 2 filters and the tractor seems to run just fine, and, of course, more filtering is usually better, but, don't want to choke restrict the airflow too much; which is why I'm asking. Am I supposed to have 1 or 2 filters in there??

The inner filter is a safety filter Incase something gets past the primary one. Mine didn’t come with one when new so I purchased one that was over 500 hrs ago and no issues.

I run an inner and an outer filter on my DK 35.

Both my DKse tractors only came with one primary air filter as well. I noticed that the Donaldson intake setup was made to also accept the inner so I picked up those too. I would recommend it to anyone who has an air filter assembly that can accept the inner filter.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who just cleans up the outer air filter with some light air pressure from the inside out. Its possible to miss a tear in the filter pleating. That inner air filter is great protection for that. I change the outer and inner filters when I start seeing the inner air filter pick up a bit of dust.

In the past, people have mentioned 2 filters being more restrictive, but this is a non issue. That inner air filter should always be very clean, and a clean air filter flows very well.

My L4200 came with only one air filter. The operator's manual had two different maintenance descriptions, one for a single filter and another for a duel filter as you describe. I never added the second filter, just changed the single air filter more frequently than the scheduled replacement called out in the operator's manual. And of course, cleaned them between actual changes. 20 years without a problem.

I know you are talking about Kioti tractors, but it appears Kubota uses the same air filtering system on some of their tractors.

Exactly what I did and how I looked at it. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't starving the engine for air by doing so, sounds like the definitive answer is "no". Just that the OEMs are cheap and don't put both filters in there, which seems pretty mind boggling to me!

What's even more mind boggling is that even some of the same model tractors strait from the manufacturer, some come with single filters while others come with both. For the few dollars more, they ALL should come with the inner filter along with the primary (outer filter). :confused3:

It comes down to $$$ that's all ,I change the inner every other time. I clean the outer if its dirty , And I never clean the inner I just change it..

Two are now on my DK-40 and have been for some time. If the filters are clean there is virtually no restriction to air flow. If they were both plugged with dirt/dust it would be a different situation regarding restriction of air flow. Let's remember we're talking diesel here, so with compression ignition engines there is plenty of compression to draw air into the engine by the mere fact that the engine is running.
As stated by others, having a second filter as a belt and suspenders approach is a good thing and adds a layer of protection to one's expensive tractor, regardless of brand.
