Hey y'all,

New to the forum. Really cool information here. Hoping I can get an answer about my tractor's starting problem.

Last week after mowing for about an hour, I parked the tractor. The next day, won't start.

Battery is fully charged, lights come on and everything seems to work just fine. Except the blasted thing wont turn over. The solenoid isn't engaging, but the lights seems to dim like it's thinking about staring but won't. It seems to me like the safety switch has gone awry, but I don't know how to diagnose it. Any pointers on how to narrow down the issue?

Thanks everyone!

Get a voltmeter and check battery voltage while trying to crank it over.
Need to rule out a bad battery.
Feel the battery connections to see if they are warm after trying to start.
Check the ground connection.

wiggle your pto lever with the key in the start position. some have safety switches connected to them as well as gear shift levers and seat switches. try those switches and levers the same way. can be a job to trace one down.

Make sure the battery terminals are clean and the ground connection at the chasis are "bright and tight". I've seen battery cables that look good from the outside be corroded near the terminal ends under the insulation. make sure the starter safety switches are closing as they should. To check out the starter solenoid, MAKE SURE THE TRACTOR IS OUT OF GEAR and Use a jumper on the solenoid. It should kick in. Ifi t doesn't it's bad. Next jump directly to the starter , if it doesn't turn over, it's bad.
