I only look for it to become more restrictive going forward...

It's ok to grow and smoke weed... if you are undocumented it is the law the DMV has to give you a Driver's License etc... but so help me Pete if you have a decent vehicle in public view that is not being used.

I'm a very much live and let live person...

This is also why I live where I do. No taxes, no local government and no one telling me what I can or cannot do. I have a multitude of "Junkers" that I keep hidden in the woods, out of view. If a car-crusher happens by one day, I will have them hauled away and crushed.

I've never been to Alaska but those I know that live there it is the only place at least until they become aged...

One of my friends now winters in California... they said the winters get to be a bit much... but this was after decades of living in Alaska year round.

<snip> ordinance that apparently severely limits how people wrench on their own cars. It reads, in part:
Work on vehicles shall be limited to the minor repair and maintenance of vehicles...currently registered to the occupant or a member of the occupant痴 family. This limitation precludes auto repair on residential premises by any person or commercial entity.
It goes on to say residents can only work on a single inoperable vehicle at any one time, and that such work must be done in an 兎nclosed structure or in area out of public view unless it痴 just 杜inor servicing, in which case it can be done in a driveway or parking service, as long as the job doesn稚 take more than 48 hours, which is further limited by the 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. restriction on wrenching hours.
Oh, and if you don稚 abide by this rule, you can see fines of up to $2,500.
<snip>
One of my main points was that you couldn't do any repairs that took more than 48 hours in your driveway. No "whoops, I broke xxx while replacing yyy, and it takes 3 days to get the part.

It just boggles my mind the difference in cost of living in different areas of the country. <snip>
Tell me about it. I'm getting ready to live in a million dollar house, but darn I wanted to MOVE!

Becoming a "Snow Bird" is very common when you hit your 60s and older. Winters are extremely long and the cold and darkness begin to wear on a person. I swore I'd never leave but even I am having second thoughts. I need some Arizona heat in my bones possibly.

My friends chose Carmel for their winters... but are very careful to document their time in California lest they have to pay resident taxes.

They have one of the coolest barns that they built... looks like it has been there over a 100 years but about 20...

I am over in Shelby county, so hey neighbor! ( original poster)

That law is both good and bad. Someone lie yourself may not be an issue but some people run a automotive shop out of the street they live on.

I work Memphis PD and see it all the time..... the law is for them but you can be burned by it also.... so it’s a catch 22

.........

Back in Engineering school the emphasis was in maker the greatest strides relative to cost...

In a simplistic way... it might be that you can clean up 80% of the problem at 20% of the cost. The final 20% may never reach 20% but the cost is often 4 to 5 times what it cost to clean up the 80%.

It's the same GOOD ENOUGH BREAK POINT that drives business. If you make anything that is past the GOOD ENOUGH BREAK POINT, you're adding cost to the item that won't pay as large of returns on your manufacturing investment.

Take one of your old pickups, park it in the yard in plain sight, put a plastic bed-liner in it, and grow weed in the bed! Now you can keep your truck, no plates, no taxes, no garage required.

You can thank me for that brilliance later....

You are probably right or "Right On" as they use to say...

I'm glad to have good relations with all my neighbors... makes life easier as I do have trailers and tractors which has me living on the edge ;-)
