Obviously it was built by somebody with limited carpentry skills, but with the paint being in such good condition, it does make me think that it might have been a portable deck that they towed behind their RV. Am I close?

Kind of what I was thinking. Other than the home-made crap on top, it looks like a brand new 'undercarriage' + jockey wheel assembly.

Interesting titbit; we refer to practically all 'trailers' as floats down here. (horse float, hay float, stock float, etc...)

Obviously at one point, North Americans did too only now you've kept the term exclusively for a trailer used in a parade.

It's pretty obvious that the owner/seller was NOT good at metal working, but on the other hand, he was also NOT good at wood working either Maybe he should have kept going with the white paint, and have a genuine White Elephant?

Looks to me that the owner built the trailer from a deck he took down and scraps from the new deck. I hope the new deck came out better than the trailer.

Nice little party barge for two though...
