I have this fitting on my Mini Excavator. The last time I disconnected from this coupler, it just kept pissing out a steady stream of hydraulic fluid. Not sure why. I tried to look up a replacement and saw a $200+ price tag. Are they made out of gold?

My question, Can these be rebuilt? Is it hard to do?

Thanks

Was all the pressure relieved ? With no pressure on the system it shouldn't have a steady stream of fluid after disconnecting. I would clean it out real good. There should be a poppet ball on the male end that closes off fluid from coming out when disconnected. Take the pressure off and see if you can push that poppet ball in. Maybe it is not seating properly.

Is that is a flat face style coupling?

If yes then it possibly has a piece of crud holding it open like 747 stated. With all of the pressure removed you should be able to push the center piston back and then look for something preventing this piston from sealing. Do NOT scratch the sides of this piston while doing this.

I would be surprised if you can purchase components to rebuild this.

It is a flat face style. It is the female side that doesn't seem to be seating closed.

bluefin,
I used to work for a company that had flat face connectors on there test stands and we would occasionally get one that dripped. From memory here is how I would approach this problem.

mark where the leak is located in manner that won't damage anything. Then with the machine off and all of the pressure removed use a smooth brass rod to try and carefully push the piston into the housing. I believe there is a cylindrical ring that pushes in while the center stays fixed. If you can get the piston depressed look for some crud in the area that is was leaking from.

On the larger QD's we removed them and put them in an arbor press so that it was easier to hold them open while looking for crud. Some times we would cover them with a rag and blow air through them from the back side to get the crud out. Could possibly also use a vise Vs the press. Springs on some of these are pretty stiff.

Good luck
