They are based in the Albany suburb of Colonie

That's just it. Although not being born or "bred" in NY state, but living there, I don't consider Albany "upstate" by any means.

Kind of like being stationed at Bragg and saying you live in upstate NC IMO.

Perhaps THAT'S the issue. I wasn't born and raised in NY.

Being a West Coast transplant to the "North Country", it took me a while to understand the subtle differences in regions. The following map helped. :) nys-map.gif

...And all of them except NYC and Long Island are Upstate :D  I grew up in far western NY (that very SW point below Lake Erie) and got used to the fact that ALL of NYS was Upstate except NYC. You would hear our area described as western NY or the Southern Tier. Either way. But it was all "upstate" i never heard of a few of those. The Capital District and Hudson Valley plus WNY and Southern Tier but not the rest of them

This was a more tongue in cheek description I saw circulating facebook some years back. It could be helpful to people from out-of-state, or NYC, though.

Ok, I have to ask, what with it don't you agree with, looks just right to me:laughing:

Staying away from politics, but relevent to this "issue" I believe, is the fact that the president mentioned he's getting "America's mayor"

http://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...iring-giuliani-as-hiring-americas-f-ing-mayor

All politics aside, the question becomes it seems "America's city" is determined by population, which NYC looks to be ahead of Los Angelas. Seems that for most outside of NY, people seem to relate NYC to the state of NY, which needless to say, I believe is wrong.

Calling NYC "America's city" is kind of like calling the Cowboys "America's team" IMO. Niether are my city or football team, and I am a US citizen.

The danged capitol district keeps trying to infiltrate the Upstate, blow the bridges

The people who I have known who lived in New York state, would say they were from Up State NY even though they were just up river from NYC. My interpretation of Up State meant anyplace that was not NYC.:laughing::laughing:

I have known people from New Jersey and the ones from southern New Jersey would say they were from South Jersey to differentiate themselves from the portion of New Jersey near NYC. :D:D:D
