Jimmy, thanks for taking the time to respond and give some input. I haven't even messed with my tractor in a few days because I've been so busy with work, my wife did use it to put out hay and it worked okay which is the problem sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't you just have no faith in it. My dealer never did bother to even call me back nor did Massey. Doesn't leave me with much faith in either so I'm sure a couple of those fixes you mentioned I won't be capable of having done unless I pay. Like I stated all along the whole purpose of me buying a brand new tractor was so I didn't have to go through these headaches while trying to farm and have a full-time job. Thanks everyone for your help and your input and if you just take this as me trying to bash a brand well so be it I'm just relaying my experience with the company and tractor. Would I ever recommend Massey again, No.

Makes sense to me. Too bad your dealer was unable to get you straight. I would feel some type of way too.
Just thought I would give one last update and then I probably won't revive this post anymore unless something major happens. Contacted Massey again (3rd time), never heard back from their rep. Called dealer and left a message, never got a call back. So I would just caution anyone looking into a Massey to make sure they have a dealer they know will help because in my experience Massey pretty much just ignored me. I know some may read this and think "I bet this guy acted like a jerk, or made crazy demands etc" so these people probably weren't able to deal with him. Hopefully judging by my posts you can tell that I wasn't demanding, I was never rude nor did I make any kind of demands. I just wanted a tractor that worked all year round. You know it's really a shame because I went to the farm machinery show and actually sat in a 4710 and from the looks of it and the feel that's a really nice tractor. I just don't think I'll ever be able to buy anything else Massey.

Hey Capt Howdy: I've read all these posts and you have no need to feel guilty or biased or in any way out of place. In no way has this reader felt you were bad-mouthing a manufacturer, using the podium to trash a company, playing a recording time after time of your mistreatment. Unlike 1 or 2 others I won't name, You are NOT guilty so forget that. My impression, for what it is worth, is you have been an unfortunate victim -- having tried to buy a brand new tractor (exactly as I did) and expecting it to be relatively, if not totally, trouble-free in return for the fortune you paid for it. At one point I predicted that MF would be out of business in 5 years if mine was typical. The difference is that eventually MF/AGCO made mine right (took 3 yrs) and I am now quite happy with the tractor. They obviously failed to do that for you and shame on them. I can't blame you at all for the opinion you have formed, based on your specific experience.
One warning comment: I do not think that the farm tractor industry is anything like the new car industry. Most, if not all, tractor brands have some legit horror stories to tell among their customers. Green and orange do for sure. The dealer networks are way too thin and often poorly supported by the manufacturer. There are not quite enough of us to have the "mass market benefits" of car buyers. So do not necessarily expect better treatment from other sources than you got from MF. Good luck from here on out !

Jwr, well said and thanks. You are absolutely correct about the treatment but I will be sure not to spend my money where I know going in they don't care. I would have even felt better about the situation if they would have had the decency to tell me they weren't going to do a **** thing. But to just ignore me and blow me off, bad business.

This is a serious case actually and the pain is coming through in some of the posts.
The shop that is working on the 1966 Ford 3000 told me yesterday the low price deals/leases on new stuff hurt his repair business for a number of years but he is seeing more heavy repairs made to old iron today and some are doing like I did by going out and buying old iron then rebuilding them back to new like condition to avoid the lighter built tractors of today. Some that are doing a deep rebuild will have a lot of money in they.
Another used dealer said the mega dealers selling and financing a trailer loaded with a new tractor and equipment is hurting him by pumping out so much light weight new stuff. While the drive train on this new to us 1966 Ford 3000 and on the late father-in-law's 1976 265 MF seem very solid and tight there is stuff that does wear/age out but if fixed they still seem to do what they would do 40-50 years ago.
I wonder if today's techs are just struggling more because the new tractors are so technical compared to the old iron. I am doing more to the 3000 than required today just because I have a good shop owner that is good with this old iron. When his generation is gone I am not sure what service will be available and if it is how affordable it will be.

I think i am having the same rattle you are talking about. My tractor makes a rattle sound which I was contributing to the transmission. I have an intermittent rattle when in gear until i push on the clutch or put the lever into neutral. Sometimes it worse than others and sometimes it goes away completely. It is usually worse in low than high. Is this similar to the rattle you are talking about. Id really like to get mine fixed if its something that going to do more damage, talking to the dealer over the phone he thought it might be the transmission flex plate.

Take the tractor in and get that flywheel and clutch replaced if it's not out of the 5 year powertrain warranty.

Not a clue. That's between you, the last owner, and the dealership. I just know that it's a warrantable rattle.
you sound like you might be familiar with these tractors. does this noise sound like it might be the flex plate or the flywheel dampener that linemanluke was talking about

I'm not 100% certain but my guarantee on a new 2011 was only 2yrs. Someone said it is 5yrs now ??
I am not sure of it was my MF2660 or another machine (and yours could well be different) but isn't the throw out bearing in constant contact on these machines ? Runs full time ? Maybe not. If it is not full-time then maybe you are taking up slack (that allows rattle) when you touch the clutch. Another thought is that depressing the clutch pulls the pressure plate away from the flywheel so maybe some of the pressure plate springs are either loose or busted ? Wait a minute -- is that not a wet clutch !?
OK, I give up. Don't know enough of your machine to help.
For sure go in quick and get the dealer to register the existence of the problem on a particular date & see if it is under warrantee. That's not necessarily the same thing as demanding a clutch replacement.

im taking it down to the dealer on saturday. i would love it if it was under warranty but i highly doubt it with my luck. im just hoping its not something that requires splitting the tractor apart and really hoping its not something that requires pulling the cab apart but it sounds like its going to be. does anybody have a ballpark idea about how long it should take to replace the clutch and flex plate?

You're doing the right thing -- get the dealer's evaluation. But kind of like testing for cancer -- don't believe something horrible until it is proven.

The noise originates from the damper. I am told there is a new damper that is being released this spring/summer. MF has advised that there have been no failures that have been the result of the noise. Agree it is a nuisance but I can honestly say have we not seen any drive line failures on tractors that are caused by the damper.

Let me know what they say. And yes yours is out of warranty as well as mine. I was also second owner and it was only 2 yr warranty.

I wonder if they will replace the dampers on these tractors since it seems most people's 4600 series seems to do it. Kinda like a recall?
