34 and heavy frost...latest into spring we have ever had frost. We brought some newly potted plants in under shelter last evening. Should rise to 71 this afternoon. Great full moon out...it will set in a bit as the sun comes up.

BEF, sorry about your friend passing.

Buppies, watched Peter Gunn as a small kid...liked the theme song so much it was the first album I ever bought to play on my parents record player.

Mostly, that is quite some ride. I looked around Muenster on google earth after looking at the GermanFest yesterday.

Was awoken several times last night, Eric, but not by the TBN app...dogs in the area were all singing in unison...got Coco barking...went outside at 2am and heard dogs barking from the usual directions where a neighbor keeps some kenneled...but barking from directions I've never heard them...and they weren't someone's fox or coon or deer dogs running...just normally quiet dogs excited about the other dogs barking at the moon, I guess.

Yesterday afternoon, I used the grapple to dig up some rocks from the hillside where I always worry about hitting them with the bush hog. Moved them onto a pallet for future landscaping use. When we were at a garden store Saturday, saw several pallets of rocks for sale... $0.35 per pound...I'd say I dug up a couple of hundred dollars worth :).

like a trucker parked under a bridge in a bad storm, this little lady bug must have decided a protected spot was good. Do lady bugs nap?

roses coming up all over, even the amaryllis is blooming

I've never been able to grow roses that lived at the end of the lane due to drowning
caused by water backup from main road drain. Finally....after my complaining nicely to my next door neighbor whose family owns the offending drainage ditch,
the ditch was dig out a month ago, and now the roses can live. That last three inch rain we got would have killed them all.
Now they are out there just doing what roses do best, look nice and smell good. I can smell the yellow roses from 20 feet away...
A real delight to me, considering I've replaced all those roses either two or three times so far.

More turnips to thin when I get home and since supermarket opens at 7 headed out.
and then it's back to hoe hoe hoe

Good morning! 67˚ partly cloudy skies. I also need to go to town and do government paperwork for Mom. I can't decide if the paperwork is worth the money received for a soil conservation program that ties up the land for years. But we probably would do it anyway to keep the agriculture tax exemption. There is also a spot to check if mom is "socially disabled" which will entitle her to more expense refund. I'm thinking that everyone is socially disabled except white males, is this right? Or is it the fact that she doesn't drive and on a walker that really cut's her out of social activities make her socially disabled? This is not a political issue its a farming issue.

Yep, wingsprd, there were three dozen roses on that bush yesterday. The other is a prickly pear cactus nestled with horsemint in the field.

Gorgeous roses Don. You could pick a dozen for your wife...
I bought or grew roses for my wife almost every week in our marriage, we both loved them.
Maybe I'm just an incurable romantic.

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 6:45AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. Slight chance of a rain shower. High 67F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.

Or is it the fact that she doesn't drive and on a walker that really cut's her out of social activities make her socially disabled?

"Socially Disabled" describes pretty much every engineer or software developer I've ever met, and most rural folks that have to drive fair distances to take part in any social interaction. Different qualifiers in each case, but same result.

Always liked roses, but not the maintenance. Used the electric hedge clippers on the ones at the last house until a neighbor lady caught me in the act and offered to prune them for me. My routine was to just cut them down very low every spring, then watch them go to town all summer and fall. Seemed to work just as well has her much lighter handed approach, and it sure took a lot less time.

ebay auction for the k-bike BMW closed yesterday and the winner has already paid, so it looks like I'll be working with a shipper this week to arrange pickup. That's one motorcycle I won't miss when it's gone. Time to get the dust cleaned off the next one and get it ready for another auction next week.

Hope everybody's week gets off to a great start!

Looks like the low was 36* this morning. Yesterday wasn't to bad, mid 60's some clouds and wind. They are calling for a 70% chance of a shower today with the wind 20-30 mph. We might get another storm on Wednesday.

I'm not sure what I'll get done today. It just now started to snow.

Hope everyone has a good start to your week.
CWB.

Our first house was a small, old house, but it had a trellis and roses growing all the way to the eaves of the house. But the next year, after we bought the place, I decided to paint the entire exterior of the house, so I cut those roses almost to the ground so I could repaint the trellis. And sure enough, the roses came back prettier than ever.

Good morning to all! Low of 51, going up to 72. High clouds right now, but they'll get blown away when the wind comes in later today and the next 2 days. Supposed to be 25-30 mph, gust to 45...Did I ever tell you guys I HATE wind! No precip at all from this last system, next chance is 20% on Wednesday.

Didn't get to do the tractor oil change yesterday, so that's on the schedule for today.

Drew, your place is gorgeous! Reminds me of Longwood Gardens.

Randy, glad your continuing to feel better. Hope Ellen gets better soon!

Don, nice wildflower patch.

CWB, Could you send some of the precip down our way? (Make sure you keep the wind though)

RNG, glad you sold the bike this time. I'm curious, when you list a vehicle on eBay, do you have to pay the 'flat rate' up front? Then after you sell, do they still take a percentage of the sale price? Reason why I am asking is that I have a restored '69 bug, a '72 bug that needs resto, and 2 complete motors that I want to sell. Hate the Craigslist BS.

Everyone have a great week! Prayers out for everyone.

57°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 77° today. Expecting to be in the low 80s the next two days.

Spent much of the weekend building the expansion for the chicken coop with The Wife. I cut the boards and drilled the holes, she screwed the frames together and painted them, then I cut and held the chicken wire in place while she stapled it. Got it assembled and attached to the existing coop with some more modifications than I'd originally anticipated. The ground there is much more uneven than my uncalibrated eyeball suggested. We ended up having to add more boards for support and gap closure, which still need a coat of paint. But in the end, it's quite solid and accessible. Wifey is pleased ... and isn't that the important part? She put one of those plastic dog houses in there for shade, and put the new chicks out there this morning. We haven't opened access to the original coop yet, as the new chicks are much smaller and younger than the others, and we want to give them a chance to get used to each other first. We'll eventually cut out one of the wire panels to joint the two.

We enjoy 54th Street, Bird. My oldest stepson worked at the one closest to us (~20mi.) for awhile after he got out of the Army, until he moved to San Marcos last year. I've not had anything there that wasn't good, and their "Gringo Dip" cheese sauce is so good that we joke it may actually have crack in it. :p

Good Morning Everyone.

The day started a little early this AM when the bear returned ~4:45AM and woke Bonehead Brogen. It was in the high 30F's with drizzle/frizzle(?) for perimeter walk #1. It should hit the mid 40F's with expected showers today and after tomorrow's cool start temperatures will become warmer, Summer-like temperatures mid week with possible popup showers/Tstorms. The weekend looks cooler, but dry. I pulled the first tick of the Season off Brogen today, and for the first time ever in the +30 years that we've lived here I heard a loon calling from down in the swamp in the "hollow." I wonder if it's migrating or establishing residency.

Don- I am sorry to read about the outcome of the breathing 911. We are a 30 minute ambulance drive to the nearest hospital. "I've made that trip 3X (2 serious) and wifey 1X (serious). We are great fans and supporters of our first responders. They saved my life. I think that your Mom meets the criteria for being challenged with a "social disability." Far too many of our elderly and homebound individuals meet the "standards"; even worse some are confined to treatment facilities.

Buppies- Peter Gunn comes on before Perry Mason. I agree with wngsprd about the theme music.

BEF- I am sorry to read about your friend. It hits closer to home when the deceased are one's own age. I would consider it an honor to present the eulogy.

"Socially Disabled" describes pretty much every engineer or software developer I've ever met, and most rural folks that have to drive fair distances to take part in any social interaction. Different qualifiers in each case, but same result."- RNG I agree. I go to the post office with the hopes of a "chance encounter" with a living and breathing human being with whom to briefly exchange pleasantries.

Randy- I am happy to read that you are breathing and sleeping better. I am sorry to read about Ellen. I hope that her upper respiratory illness stays there. Take care both of you.

Drew- We do not use poisons around here. I will use biological agents for leaf eating pests. Our ladybugs are still overwintering in our bathroom. Wednesday will be a Ladybug "Born Free" experience.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

I hope that everyone had a decent start to their week.
