What farm task do kids today know nothing about.

we got paid a couple dollars per truck load and each truck held a couple thousand. usually four of us to load out a couple trucks per night.

I actually liked our chickens...with noodles or dumplings, and sometimes fried. We had one old White Leghorn rooster, though, that used to flog the crap out of me. Jump on the back of my neck and flog away...until one day I beat the crap out of him with little fishing rod.

Five of us boys ran a crew all one summer hauling hay. The guy we hauled for liked us because we only complained once about him making the bales too big for us to pick up. We rotated positions on every load so one time in five you would drive the truck and rest. We had several thousand bale days that made us $.10 a bale or $.02 for each of us. We even had one week that we managed to haul more than six thousand bales so we each made $120.

It could be brutal work when the temps were in the high nineties and the bales were heavy. Most of the teenagers today would not last four hours.

It didn't take me but a couple of rounds of hauling hay for me to get inoculated and become immune.

I remember when dad installed the stoker. instead of throwing in lump coal we now had a machine that fed the coal into the furnace.
guess who had to shovel the coal into the stoker bin every night?

Chicken feathers were not saved. Goose down may have been!

r porter what part of Ark . are you located. and I'm assuming raising chickens? The Tyson houses of 40 to 125 thousand then the hours spent looks like a endless circle of debt to be added to just when note is paid off.
