What farm task do kids today know nothing about.

Keep it going. I'd bet 15 acres leaves you a bit tired by the end of the day. I've heard some big farmers tell small farmers that they've never farmed unless they had a large acreage. It's just different for sure. Small farmers are what made this country, at least that's my opinion.

I'm thinking the Farm Boy of the past may not have known all the things a Farm Boy of today knows.

Knowledge may be very dependent on what is required at any one time!

Yep. Most farmers I know today are pretty computer savvy and have college degrees in AG. And business minors.

You are absolutely right. The large scale, heavily industrialized and automated, farming that our country uses to feed the mass and also to wield as economic weapon around the world requires a lot of things that the farmers of the past don't know.
OTOH, the small scale do everything and live off the land farming of the past still have lots to offer on a more wholesome and personal level. There are fewer and fewer kids that know about it. It's natural since the majority of the population now live in urban areas and have zero chance to learn. However, with the internet, lots of that knowledge is retained. I myself keep learning on how to do things from here, YouTube, and other places on the internet.

My Dad was born in 1910 and grew up farming with horses. They also milked by hand, and separated the cream from the milk with a hand-cranked separator. They churned their own butter by hand, slaughtered their own calves and hogs, made their own lard and sausage; smoked their own ham and bacon, raised their own chickens for eggs and meat, and of course raised their own garden. Grandma washed clothes with a gasoline powered Maytag washing machine; heated her own water in a huge cast iron pot, with a wood fire.

My Dad road a horse to school, as did most of the other kids. He even told me that a bunch of drunken Indians, riding horses, shot the chimney off of their school house when he was in grade school (I expect that there was some slight exaggeration there, but it made a good story).

I made the comment one day, that it must of been fun growing up with horses. He said "He77 no; horses are stupid and you have to have your wits about you all of the time or they will get you killed. The tractor is the best thing that ever happened to farming". He also told me this little anecdote: When he was about 7 or 8 years old, some gentlemen from the U.S. Army came out to the farm. At that time, he said that Grandpa had a matched set of Clydesdale mules. He said they were big, strong and beautiful. The army appropriated these mules for the war effort, and wrote Grandpa a check for $800. I suspect that was a lot of money at the time.

I wonder if the medical industry will see a big drop off in joint replacements after all the blue collar boomers are gone...?...or will all the cross training/ gym going millennials take their place?

My Dad was born in 1916 instead of 1910. And my Grandpa farmed with horses and mules, but never had any of those beautiful Clydesdale mules. And other than that, what you wrote about your ancestors is the same that could be said of mine. And even with my own limited personal experience, I can say, without doubt, your Dad knew what he was talking about when it came to horses. I've had 3; one at a time, when I was a kid.

Our hometown paper here, back in the 80's and 90's, used to reprint pages from their paper from 100 years ago. One thing I recall is the number of articles on citizens who were seriously injured or killed by a horse. They would be kicked, bitten, or injured when the horse fell or even rolled over on them. In fact, I had a cousin who was kicked in the cheek by a colt. He recovered OK, but he had a weird smile for a number of years. I put horses and motorcycles in the same category; I can never convince them that I am boss.

Oh the cross fit people will fill up that niche in no time. We already see the cross fit people with back issues from flipping the tractor tires etc.
