3-Point Hitch PTO spline yolk pin won't depress

I had a problem with mine once. I rotated the shaft by hand so I could align the release button facing down and used a piece of wood & hammer to depress the pin to get it off. Culprit was the PTO shaft was too long.

Tried pulling, didn't work. Splines were not damaged. Going to replace yolk and universal joint.

View attachment 552205 Jmurphy - several, including myself, have mentioned that you should, now, make certain that the driveshaft is the correct length. I'm working here under the notion that you were not the one to shorten the drive shaft. If in fact it has been shortened. I've attached a page from my Wallenstein Op Manual on shortening PTO shafts. They are all handled basically the same way.

Please do not take offense at my including this attached information. A person seldom has to work on a PTO shaft - unless you have a lot of PTO driven implements.

There's a thread somewhere on here from a guy who had a PTO shaft that was too long. It damaged parts inside the transmission housing. He disassembled it and did all the work and it cost him $600 in parts and XX hours time. The consensus was that he got off cheap.

Thanks. Sander was purchased with tractor. I will check dimensions. I hope dealer did the same. I will be pissed if they didn't do the right thing.

It seems the dealer might or might not have cut the PTO shaft for (you?), or whoever purchased the tractor new.
Even though you inadvertently hit a snow/ice bank, in theory, at least IF the PTO shaft's entire length were cut to fit your tractor/implement fitment length, as shown by Ossik's spec sheet, what happened should have been avoidable, unless when you 'crashed' it caused a greater compression than would normally be able to occur. If it was my machine I'd set up the sander and tractor as if the shaft length was never checked, and then do the measurements per the diagram to see where you're at.

You definitely got very lucky. I've seen where a 3PH link let a brush hog loose and it allowed similar jam at PTO drive box and destroyed the PTO. Big expense, lots of fluid lost, huge nightmare.

Is your sander a driveway sander? Can you say something about how you like it/use it?

It is a Kasco/Herd Model 5.5. Holds about 550 pounds, 5.5cu ft. Excellent sander, very well made. Skid Steer and PTO Powered Sand/Salt Spreaders Kasco MFG. Have had no issues with it. Easy on and off. No regrets on purchasing it.
