New law I missed??? Merging traffic?

Once again, I seem to see that some people, actually a lot of people, think cameras will fix bad drivers like they think they will protect their property. How?

We have no-fault insurance here, although I can't say I understand how it works, so even in an accident, I am not sure that camera data would be useful for anything other than entertainment.

I love the idea of a HONDA or V-DUB impaled on the 3/4 or 1 ton trailer hitch. Grill, and three or so coolers! Then get out and accuse them of scuffing your trailer hitch. The sad thing is that we are not allowed to have an unused trailer hitch sticking out the back. And then, even sadder, is that the Bumper on my "HEAVY DUTY" GMC is thinner than a COKE can.

I've seen a couple articles discussing highway studies, that show using the whole merge lane, leading up to a lane closure, results in the least congestion. I am sure the studies assume that all drivers have a brain and are aware of what is going on around them. Factor in stupidity, aggression, not paying attention and incompetence. No amount of laws, enforcement procedures, or electronic gizmos can offset that.

Without the hitch in place, what do you bang your shins on as you walk around the back of your truck? I know what you mean about the rear bumpers; there is no support beyond the frame. I have a bad habit of bending them as I back up to a snowbank to unload my snowsled; and I'm barely moving.

Yup, A snow bank did in my bumper, all kinds of plastic clips and that backup system. Just barely touched it. Actually, the back up system got KOed on a previous occasion. The second time wouldn't have happened if my radar was working!

Jeese, I read the whole NINE pages while my blood pressure ramped up like a little 'old lady Sunday driving up the on ramp to heii!
Born in '52, got license 17 years later. In America, those on the highway at whatever speed they're traveling have the right of way, OVER those trying, however pathetically, to merge into traffic.
Too bad, and so sad if people who don't understand the meaning of either merge or yield want us/me to merge left for THEIR convenience!
Tough! Those who often do merge left to let the on ramp person find their way by braile onto the highway are reinforcing the notion that whoever wants access to the highway/interstate is to be immediately granted that 'hole' in traffic no matter road conditions, traffic already at speed, etc. Stop moving out of the merge lane traffic and let them get the message- WAIT your turn to merge! Maybe we'll get lucky and how things used to work will come back- just like coal mining! HA!

And as far as redoing our country's laws to match the Autobahn - F no!
Even if we wanted too there are way, way, way too many dumbazzesses here to fill a huge trainload of idiots who can't read, are situationally un-aware of their surroundings, on Meth, crackoid, etc.clogging all roads leading to anywhereville.
More laws, or changing the entire way we here in America, home of the free, land of the driving impaired is NEVER going to adjust to a completely new set of regulations/rules/laws, whatever.
The driving less car will likely get the job done eventually, after enough algorithims are run to eliminate all the mistakes 'real' human drivers wrack up everyday.

In the meantime all onramps, whether going up or down, shall immediately have tire shredders installed, which will instantly pop up when anyone from MA tries to outrun my or any of my friends cars/trucks etc. as I speed up in the right lane to block access by anyone trying to merge into my lane, EXCEPT if they get behind me and draft my bumper long enough to bring them up to the speed of already travelling traffic. Problem solved, case closed. You have a nice day!

BTW, some of you guys really need to read up on what a paragraph looks like. Running one sentence into another and no paragraph breaks is dammm near impossible to read!

Carry on, and wait your dammm turn to get onto the highway, and do so without screwing it up for those already on the road- or don't leave your shack, or move to Germany, or someplace with even weirder rules...

Best city I've ever driven in, even though the traffic is bump your head ridiculous is Denver Colorado. As long as you use your turn signal, someone will ease off and let you merge without any fuss. Most other areas I've been in, it takes an act of Congress to get someone to allow you to merge onto the interstate in bumper to bumper traffic.

It used to be that way around here. But too many people have moved in from other parts of the country or other parts of the world. Now it is much crazier. People are aggressive and impatient.

As to merging, it is the responsibility of the merging vehicle to find a spot as it should be. The traffic on the freeway should not have to slow down. Ease off a bit to facilitate the merging traffic, yes. But to slow down and give the merging vehicle the right of way is a waste of fuel. The merging vehicle is the one that is already off speed so they might as well be the one that make sure they can find a spot. Besides, it is the law. You move here, learn it.

I almost got hit today!

This is mostly the reason but at least it wasn't on the Highway.
It seems people have a bad habit of letting people pull out of lots and side roads by stopping/slowing or somehow hindering traffic to give that wave to let people go ahead when they have the right away with cars behind them having to slow or stop for absolutely no reason!

Todays incident.
Driving down a secondary road at the speed limit or there about (55MPH) as I approached an intersection with a car stopped (completely stopped) seemed to be waiting for me and the 3 cars behind me to get past so they could pull out, turn left and get into traffic behind me.
As I approached and got rather close the driver started moving out of the intersection and into my lane. At this point I was at the intersection and if I hadn't swerved she would have hit me right at the front drives side wheel. I swerved squeezing between a stone wall and some tall tree like growth alongside the road which made a rather loud sound as it thunked under the bumper of My truck. What amazed me most was that after having to hit the brakes as hard as she did she actually tried to go again before the car behind me which was following at about 3.5 to 4 seconds and they had to swerve even closer to the wall (still unsure of how they didn't make contact)
Anyway both me and the driver behind me stopped to check for damage to our vehicles and the lady who had just tried to kill us also pulled over behind. To my surprise not to apologize for cutting us off but rather to complain that we didn't slow to let her out ahead of us.

Please stop waving people out to give yourself some false sense of doing good! All your doing is creating another idiot who will congest our roadways and endangering the traffic coming up behind you because they know that you have the right away and should be gone before they get there as they can see nothing coming toward you in the other lane. You should take the right away and the person waiting to move can simply wait their turn for a clear spot 30 seconds or so later.

Last week I followed a car for about 4 blocks. It stopped at every intersection even though the stop sign was for cross traffic only. Then it came to a signaled intersection with a green light, stopped and waved across the pedestrians that were waiting. After they crossed, it continued. I turned left. I wonder what else the driver did.

I love the idea of a HONDA or V-DUB impaled on the 3/4 or 1 ton trailer hitch.

Just have to make sure they are centered to get proper impalement. Had a girl try few years ago. Her "flip-flop slipped off the brake pedal". Was off center, ball went through bumper and hit end of frame rail. Rotated the whole hitch down. Body shop had to straighten the frame rails on my truck.
