New law I missed??? Merging traffic?

What annoys me even more then that, is that often when they do finally move over, you go to pass, and try and give them "a look" or even shake your head, and they don't even look at you. It's quite obvious, that they are totally oblivious to their surroundings and oh so obvious that they really need some physical road rage imposed upon them!

If the police spent more time giving traffic tickets to people who are actually doing dangerous things, and a little less citing people for going 10 MPH over the speed limit when there is no traffic and no hazard, I think our roads would be much safer. How many people do you know who habitually tail-gate, don't use their turn signals, etc. and how many of those have EVER been stopped and cited for those things? The problem with peoples' unsafe driving habits is the police doing a bad job of enforcing the laws IMO.

Having been on both sides I completely agree.

Oh, they aren't oblivious. They know what they did, so are avoiding your stare.

Oh, the stare. Lol

Half the time they are probably the ones that should do the staring, back at an impatient person who thinks the road is only for them..

Actually I would bet that the ones holding traffic back by blocking the left lane are wrong more than 98% of the time.

Yesterday on my way home some bozo held up traffic for over 23 miles. I couldn't count all the cars that flew by when we finally got the chance but like in most cases when the majority of the traffic works so hard at getting by you when you finally decide to move over it becomes clear the left lane wasn't built for you to lollygag in!
Again I was only a few cars back when he cut out into the left and just as almost every time I see it happen he was traveling slower than the traffic in the left lane and was being passed by an uncountable amount of cars when he came upon someone going just about 1 MPH slower than he and instead of accelerating into the left lane to attain the speed needed for the flow of traffic, he simply forced his way out in the first hole big enough to fit causing almost 15 cars (that I could count) to hit the brakes in order to slow to his lower speed. Then as always he didn't speed up at all and simply stayed in that traffics way for the next 23 miles of which he barely passed 4 cars and one tractor trailer.
As always the slow poke who thinks they own the road, blames everyone else and thinks everyone else is impatient simply kept looking away as everyone passed him with the Stare!
Since reading this post had my mind thinking a little about this I got into the right lane and held back to watch this Idiot for a while from the mirror as I couldn't stand to be behind him. Sure enough about 2 miles later he got out into the left lane again and within a few moments time he had built up an new train of traffic behind him as he once again decided he owned the road and he was going to cruise in the passing lane. This time I was in the right lane with the cruise control on and set just below the speed limit and for the last 10 miles of my trip he never got past my rear bumper.

Allowing someone from the merge lane while they are going slower than you is very frustrating because that means you need to slow down to allow them in. I hate that scenario because quite often it seems they take forever to get up to speed.

I am sympathetic to those in the right lane when I try to merge into traffic. What I try to do is go faster than those in the right lane, like hammer down faster. Then slow down to find a hole. When the eight, center and left lane are congested, if you are not aggressive you will come to a stop. Then you are screwed.

People seem to allow a faster car into traffic from the right even if it means slowing a little bit. Maybe to get away from that crazy driver.

I believe that's how it's supposed to work. Here's Texas law, et.al. on merging;
"Section 545.061 of the Texas transportation code states that (on a roadway divided into three or more lanes providing for one-way traffic) a driver must yield to traffic on the left when entering a lane from the right. This statute applies to lane changes as well as vehicles entering the roadway.

Some drivers let those entering the freeway have right of way by moving over to another lane so that they can merge safely. Whle drivers on the highway are not required to yield or move over, this is usually done out of courtesy and to avoid an unnecessary collision.

When youæ±*e merging into traffic, you need to pay attention to your speed in order to avoid disrupting traffic. For example, you should enter the freeway ramp and immediately start accelerating so you can match the speed of highway traffic. You should find an acceptable balance where youæ±*e neither going too fast nor too slow to avoid confusing other drivers."
