Yep, balls, plural. #3 in the picture. The ones you can see around the sides in this pic. I cannot push those in with the tip of my leatherman. Should i be able to?

IIRCC the female socket 6 will move rearward (snap ring 1 prevents it from coming out) The housing 21 has a larger bore at the rear for female socket 6 allowing the balls 3 to let a tip insert. Inserting a tip in female socket then pushing forward, female socket moves forward in the housing where the bore is smaller, forcing the balls 3 to retain the tip.

Balls, female socket, housing, should not be rusty!!

That coupler is completely different than the ISO type i was referring to. I suspect that you can't push balls in without pushing inner sleeve forward, like what happens when the correct hose end is inserted. Your coupler looks fine. You just need the correct hose end.

On ISO couplings the balls are locked by the outer sleeve. The sleeve has to be pulled back for the coupler to unlock. In my case, the hose coupler would not unlock with the sleeve pulled back. The balls were rusted and full junk. I can't even move the sleeves in my 3rd SV hose couplings. They will have to be disconnected from the hoses and 'persuaded' apart on the work bench. If it is to hard, I'll just replace both coupler halves.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, just put the correct coupler on the hose and commence post pounding.

Excellent! Thanks for the input. I hope to pick up the right coupling today and give it a shot.

Ok, is this the right fitting? I got it from my neighbor down the road. He said it was for an old John Deere. However, it doesnt fit. It seems like it would fit if those little balls inside the remote hydraulics fitting would compress.

Looks like the right one. Have you tried to slide the female socket in your break away coupler to the rear with bottom lever pionting back????

I'll 2nd Zebrafive that you have the correct fitting. I think you need to move/tap barrel(key 13) rearward in housing(key 24) to allow balls to move out a little so as to accept coupler.

I thought it needed slid back too, and ive tried, however theres not really anything to grab on to to pull it back. I cant imagine that applying hydraulic pressure to the fitting would push it back?

I cant believe it took me this long to figure this out. I learned that i could reach behind the mounting block that the remote hydraulic ports sit in and push them back out to me from the back side. This allowed the correct fitting to just push right in. Thats fixed!

Ill post pics better illustrating what im talking about when i get them.

I'm glad you got fitting plugged in. You're not the 1st person to struggle to get the barrel slide back so hyd fitting could be connected.
