Oldpath. Your tractor looks dirty. Kind of curious have many people logged firewood with their compact hydrostatics? I have s mshindra 2816hst. I知 mostly afraid of puncturing a hose and not catching it in time. Has this happened to anyone. I built a good skid plate and did haul some firewood on 3pt forks but I had the path really clean and it was fairly level or made level with wood bits and sawed the stumps as low as I could.

I had a branch i was pushing out of the way snap back once and blast a hydraulic line fitting apart. Lost loader dump/curl, but that was no big deal to drive out and repair.
Just gotta go slow and be cautious. I wouldn't advise driving over stumps.... go between them, and stay on the trail whenever possible.

Yes for sure. I had the trail pretty good. I want all four wheels on the ground at all times. Looks like three wheels would put torque on the tractor. I used to work on a harvestor processor for a couple years. Sometimes at night I could smell the hydraulic oil or see a mist. With these little tractors I wondered if anyone ran them dry after loosing oil un-noticed. I致e been thinking of them winches for years now...,,

No tractor except maybe the Holden is really designed to go into the woods. Yet if you use care, know your machine, and listen to your instincts you can do a lot of work with them. If you ran a processor, you will have no problem with your Mahindra.
Rather than crashing through the bushes, take the time to cut a trail- actually a corridor, as you want to take all of the overhanging limbs out of the way. You might want to swamp out some of the low spots and holes in your trail. Go slow at first, remembering that you aren't on your Timberjack. (Nice machine, BTW.) A winch is a great investment, it will give you more control over where you need to put your trails.

Yes. That’s the thing. I own a 230 skidded. It sits rusting now with one tire burnt off. It belongs to both my brother and myself since my father passed. Next to what was once our garage that burned. However he has no drive to do anything and I’ll fix the skidder and he’ll be giving it to people that shouldn’t have it. In fact that I forbid to have it. There is also 7 j5 bombardier tractors and I’ll probably leave them for the moose hunting only as it would be a similar situation. Now I’m just left with the mahindra for now as I bought that for my mother and took it back after she psssed away near the same time as my father. The harvestor was for a company I worked for in the late 90s. Now it’s just firewood alone. That being said I did haul some firewood when I was very young with a tractor. Can’t remember the kind. But maybe in 45-60hp range mid to late 70s at a guess . And when I think what we used to do to that tractor I cringe now. And the danger. The front end of the tractor was off the ground more then on. No belly pan so the clutch pedal extended pretty low below the tractor but when it was going over brush and tops you probably couldn’t push it down. Sticks in the chains sometimes for traction. This little tractor is nothing like that. They don’t appear as robust. I didn’t want mom anywhere near the woods with it and now it’s what it might be used for most..... funny how that happens.

Now you tell me, maybe that's why my tractor's dirty, I think looked new for about 6 months and that was it, ten years ago. Never heard of a Holden, I have heard of Holdon, BECAUSE THE 550 JD SKIDDER IS TIPPING OVER.....................

Apparently Holden no longer even makes the machine which I was thinking of; it was an articulating machine. You would be more familiar with them out plowing city sidewalks, which is a major use for them.

holder you're thinking of holder. and they still make them and yes i have seen them doing lots of sidewalks

Holder Tractors: Homepage
At least SOMEBODY knows what I'm talking about. :D I still don't see the machine that I was thinking of though, and the company which used to sell them now carries another brand.
