I put synthetic 75w-140 in all gear boxes, including changing out my jeep and truck differentials.
I put Syn thickest I can get...I think it's 75W-140 in my new ones before I use them.....most are shipped dry.Do you all run synthetic or regular conventional gear oil in your rotary cutter gear box? Thanks
Thanks for this thread. It never occurred to me to use Syn gear oil in the gear boxes, even though I always use Syn engine oil.
But please allow me to input this. I worked in an International Truck parts dealership for 35 years, and before the introduction of synthetic gear oil, we were constantly selling gears and bearings for transmissions and drives/rear ends.
And of course I realize the designs of these devices improved with time, but when fleets began using full synthetic gear oil , it was clear that transmissions and rear end bearings and gears were not failing as often due to the use of synthetic oil.
Would Lucas 10122 75/140 Synthetic Gear Oil - 1 Gallon be good for rotary gear boxes? I already use the Lucas 75W140 Dino oil in my Wheel Horse garden tractors trans/diff, so I could switch over to Syn on the Wheel Horses as well.
