Where to find year of John Deere 955?

The operator's manual I have covers 755, 855, and 955 models from serial numbers 100001-. It states on page 123 that the Identification number is located on the plate below the rear PTO and stamped into the frame at the right front.

My 855 has the number in both locations and begins with LV0855. Looking at the chart above yours should begin with LV0955 or M00955.

A picture being worth a thousand words I took one and drew an arrow to the location of my frame stamped number.

Like others said, you are probably going to spend a little time in the pc looking for changes at s/n breaks but here is the chart, available at the JDparts catalog online. Good Luck

May I ask you to please explain how one locates on JDparts.com a serial number chart similar to the one you posted?

Like Mechanos said, you may need to remove the loader and unbolt the loader frame to see it. If that part of the frame is unobstructed and there is no number there and the plate is missing from the rear I fear your tractor was stolen. At this point there is probably no worry of someone claiming it nor could they prove it was theirs but having something like that would worry me. Is that area of the frame smooth and flat or can you see grinding marks or a depression? It doesn't mean the person you bought it from stole it. The serial number you say is on your bill of sale resembles the engine serial number on my 855.

Do you find the engine serial number on the valve cover?

Are you trying to purchase a part that requires a serial number or just curious what year the tractor was built? I'm sure you can match up any parts that are different to differentiate a year of manufacture.

In the newest online catalog look for a link that says "introduction", doesn't always have a s/n chart but for most smaller stuff it's there.

Last time I used the "old" part catalog there was note in red that it was being disabled by October 31 2018. I too prefer it to parts advisor.
