I used to spread blood meal all the way around my garden to keep the rabbits out. That worked, and it sure made the grass grow pretty around the garden.:laughing: I re-applied it after each rain.

Varmints have been known to dig in areas where bloodmeal has been applied. Bad news for tomatoes; that's why I always put it in the bottom of the hole and mix it in when planting.

Yes, a suppressed 22 was my first thought. I am less than 5 acres... one reason I bought a can for my Ruger MkIV! I think I will try the ammonia or blood meal solution. If my neighbors find out I am eating rabbit often, they might make a bigger stink than me dosing the ground locally! :laughing:

Well my one neighbor (hunter) recently passed. His wife would probably be okay. Other 85yr old neighbor is a great guy... trained dolphins for the Navy (Flipper program) so he is partial to animals. He catches and releases critters instead. Third neighbors are doctor and high school teacher that hire out their lawn care, hardly home, and wouldn't know the difference.

I am not ruling out the 22 pill, just wondering about other alternatives. :laughing:

Small shot gun. A 10 gauge would blow a rabbit away. Pretty humane. He'd never know what hit him.

I've used a 410 shot gun or 22 rifle. A 22 rifle is extremely dangerous, as they can ricochet and go for a mile away and kill someone there.

I would create quite a stir if I started popping off with a shot gun. Actually 'Humane' probably was a poor choice of words. I just want to discourage them from one small patch of grass.

A 22 sub sonic shot from a rifle is perfect for such jobs. Slamming the car door is louder.
