Change in diesel fuel?

The only change I noticed in diesel fuel is the price..............UP!

Chances are THIS will make you feel better:

I just had my 500 gallon tank filled earlier this week. Marked ( off -road) diesel $2700. That's approximately $5.40 CDN per imperial gallon.

I am the sole operator and doing similar spring chores. The other tractor is my son's and he also noticed that he was using more fuel.Mine is hydrostatic and his is straight gear.

Well then (bit of maths/fault-finding); two different tractors + the tractors regular [experienced] operators = both tractors experiencing a decrease in fuel economy [assuming a common fuel source].

Result/common factor is the fuel being used.

Just found my own answer;according to the local farmers the most recent fuel available is a biofuel mix.Again not a huge thing for me but the big operators are really feeling it.

If they went from the B5 to B20 there will be a noticed increase in fuel usage. Paying3.27 here for B5 and the B2o here is cheaper because the Stat of Oregon is forgiving the state portion of the fuel tax on the B20 because it was not selling well being more expensive( your state biofuel mandates working at their best).

I am paying extra to run the B5 in the Kubotas but still getting a lot of corrosion on the fuel sending units

My supplier says B5 is all he can get. Just filled two drums at $3.26. I haven't calculated the extra costs lately but I always add Biocide and Lubricity additives. Doesn't amount to a lot considering the consequences if I don't.

Don't use enough to notice any difference in consumption.

I filled up my skid steer last week with red diesel last week at 2.51 a gallon. That’s with no sales tax and after the 25 gallon discount. Highway diesel is currently about $3 a gallon and higher at the stations close to the interstate.

No idea what kind of work you are using your tractors for but you sure you are not using for heavier jobs right now? I have a M6800 Kubota with about a 20 gallon tank. I can run it all day long with sprayer, light disking or other tillage and not use full tank. Then I can take same disk or chisel plows and have to fill my tank at lunch or will run out by say 3 PM. That is probably about a 50% increase in my fuel use for what did not seem that much of load increase. But noticed that every year after I first realized it.

I use off road diesel and not bio.

According to my supplier B5 is all that is available and they are not required to post it. Some places are selling B15 and are required to post notice.
