3-Point Hitch PTO Generator arrived today

No matter if your a DIY or an electrical engineer-always respect electricity. The moment you font it will bite you in the ars. If its not safe-dont do it-its not worth it.
I have just enough experience with it to be dangerous.
Amen . The stuff is patient and will wait as long as it takes to bite you.

Hey I know a guy that put his (pto) generator in his garage on an exterior wall. He made an access panel for the drive shaft through the wall. (tractor on the outside)
Just thought that was a pretty clever idea I'd mention.

When he turned his main breaker off it isolated the utility,
then lets think about what would happen if he didn't turn off his main.
If you try to backfeed a utility with a small generator whats actually going to happen.
lets see 220 volt and a 30 amp breaker on the generator; and lets assume a 13,500 volt primary feed,
13,500 volt and 0.5 Amps, of course the inrush to load the transformer blew his circuit breaker or stalled his generator.
So he could not backfeed thru the transformer, with enough generator it would be theoretically possible if there is not a short
in the system.
I will admit to "backfeeding" my main panel also, I verify that no voltage is present on the main,
Then I turn the main off, plug in my cord to the 50 amp receptacles,
bring the generator to speed and close the breaker on the generator then the breaker to the receptacle.
The worst point is that I have a 600 Volt 200 Amp 3 pole double throw switch just waiting to be installed,
which may never happen, I am going to install one of these as I don't have to pull the meter to install it.
Manual Transfer Switch Kits | Generator Interlock Kit
So to all of the "safety gestopos" on here, stuff it.
verify the voltage and check for voltage on the incoming main

Exactly correct!
If a person is too stupid to trip the main service entrance breaker before starting the generator they absolutely DO need a transfer switch.
Trip the main breaker FIRST.
Trip all the individual breakers.
Have a a TRIP MAIN BREAKER FIRST tag/sign conspicuously attached to generator.
Plug the generator into a dryer or range receptacle.
Start the generator, and allow to warm up for a brief time.
Turn the dryer or range breaker on.
Select additional breakers to on as desired, and according to allowable generator total permissible load.
How can this method be unsafe for utility line crews?

Are you serious, don’t Know any better , don’t care , cheap or are you just trying to stir the pot ? Ever wonder why all power utilities mandate the use of a break before make transfer switch ?

All THAT, and you didn't answer the question...

What is that supposed to mean?
Sure....tell me why "all the power utilities mandate the use of a breaker before make transfer switch"

It sound's like break the connection to the grid then make the connection to your genny.
That's how my manual transfer switch works. It's a guillotine or knife (terminology?) type switch that in one spring assisted motion disconnects one source and drops into the other, never the 2 (sources) shall meet. Not super expensive, $400 in a weather proof outside enclosure.
