Driveway Gravel

Never purchased gravel before, and I'm would like to have an idea of how much I will need to spend. I do not know if they price it per cubic yards or if it priced by the ton, or if it depends on where you get it. If anyone near Reidsville, NC had an idea of price, I would greatly appreciate the info.

I think you are going to find that the price ($/ton in my part of NC) is going to depend on your proximity to a quarry. I would call several local haulers to get a sense of the prices in your area. I'm assuming that you are going to have the gravel delivered. Right?

For us, the actual gravel cost was pretty much a moot point compared with the delivery fees- so the closest quarry was the least expensive, despite the per ton cost being about 2X's the more distant quarry's per ton charge.

Yep it’s the delivery! Material is what has already been stated and delivery is $65-$100/hr (round trip) depending on the truck and location.

Btw- you don’t want gravel for a driveway. It’s road base or whatever they call it there. It’s a mix of rock and stone dust that packs well.

South and southeast of Charlotte I think that the "crusher run" (also called "ABC") that is typically used for the base on a driveway is about $350 for a 15-ton load. I was quoted recently $416 for a 15-ton load of gravel for use after the driveway base is well established. I have seen ads on Craigslist for gravel at lower prices north and west of Charlotte.

I fortunately live 4 miles from a quarry and get it delivered reasonably. Need a couple loads of #57 as we speak.

I recently paid $5.75 / ton of 3/4” minus (with fines) for our road association. I request super dumps (24 ton avg.). Since we are not close to the quarry, an hour each way, I pay more to haul it than the rock costs. 17 loads this year at about $425 per load. They dump it as they drive and do a fair job. A little touch up with the rear blade and we were pretty happy this year.

Stone seems to go up in price every year regardless of economic conditions...
I have an acquaintance that works for one of the quarries and they inform haulers and the asphalt plant of impending increases...
Around here that is typically twice a year...
