I don't suppose you could go up the hill in a slow spiral...? Many years ago, there was a knoll outside of the town where I lived which had a spiral road to the top; it was pretty neat.
Excellent idea....the South and East sides(opposite of the side I'm working on) are very very steep. It would definitely require bench cuts with an excavator. I will have to contemplate this idea more

What will by driving on the road when it is finished?

This is a 20% grade, gravel road. Empty 2wd pickups sometimes stop and can't restart without just spinning their wheels, then having to back down a couple hundred feet. About two weeks ago a lumber delivery truck broke its driveshaft here. Most 2wd vehicles, and some 4wd, can't make it with snow on the road.

I sure hope the effort/expense of building/maintaining a trail to the top is worth it. It would appear - without good design and construction - the "top" could easily end up in your back yard.

I'm sure that I will have many hard lessons along the way....but that's why I'm here...so I don't have too many hard lessons^

1st lesson/mistake.....??

I've found 2 sink holes that take many gallons per minute...the soil isn't very deep before you hit shale. I imagine water has carved an underground path. I would hate to accelerate the cavity by making easy access for the water. By the way, I have know idea where it goes.

I've since buried them and channeled the water where I want it to go. Screenshot_20180604-112247.jpegScreenshot_20180604-112347.jpegScreenshot_20180604-112435.jpeg

🤣 the steam that comes out of the trees and sink holes/vents in these hills makes it look as if everyone is making shine!

Good ol' 'tuckey!

I did buy a pair of overalls and a canjo to better integrate down here! Even hooked the canjo to my amp and played it on the front porch to give my neighbors a holler....no one hollered back tho
