Anyone ever regretted buying a HST?

Funny. I DID SMT repairs almost twenty years ago, that, on account of eyesight degradation, I am not sure I would attempt today.

I only ever regretted buying a Gear trans tractor. I bought a new JD 770 because I liked the large wheels, although the transmission lacked reverse speed choices having only two ranges. A problem when mowing, wide open throttle!

When I went to sell it, usually the first question was, is it hydro? One guy, so impressed with the condition gave me a deposit. Later he called up and said he was talking to a buddy. Is it a hydro? I gave him his deposit back!

Informative thread so far. Seems most people have no regrets going with the HST. I am 98% sure I will as well at this point

If you ever plan on trading up you will regret not buying an HST. They are easier to sell and have a higher resale/trade in value than shuttle shifts and esp gear shifts.

Easier to sell? Most likely. Higher resale/trade-in value? Well that point is mute. They also have a higher initial purchase price. It's all relative.

I never purchase anything with the thought of what can I get for it if I ever want to sell/trade it. I always purchase what will suit me best at the time.

I bought a HST machine back in 2013 and had nothing but problems with it, leaking fluids, bad repair jobs, bad pump, not engaging into reverse. I am going with a shuttle shift only to eliminate 1 more thing that will go, or could go, wrong with the tractor.

Not me! I never buy anything on impulse or emotion. When I buy something that costs that much I'm very patient and I consider resale value. You just never know when you have to sell or trade up. That's why I always buy slightly used, never new.

Why wouldn't everyone do exactly that?

Nothing worse than having no chair to sit down when the music stops.

Have had 3 HST tractors so far. Cannot imagine buying any 4wd tractor and not HST. Only if I was going to use it mainly to plow with. But who does that any more?

Many more people than you think... It's fairly common around here for folks with gardens...

For me hst all the way. Ease of operation. I do loader work and mow for the most part. The NH has cruise control as an option. So I set that when mowing.

As for the whine.... I wear ear protection anyway.
