Woodmaxx is up front about the manufacture of their machines and components. To my knowledge their machines, literature, and advertising are fair and honest.

Now if you wanna gripe about something , try the MAGA window stickers in the HF parking lots.

While I prefer US made stuff, (UAW/GM retiree) there's plenty of good that comes from o'seas with familiar names like Kohler, Red Wing, John Deere, etc and how about all those JD, Cummins, and Perkins diesel engines made under contract by their own global competitors. Made in Canada suits me fine too, while makers no longer source all their bits stateside anymore.

Not my thread, and OT, but of those posting who prefer one or the other, are there strong points to 'your' brand that we oughta hear? My guess is that we're comparing apples to apples and the choice might not be so easy for everyone w/o knowing a bit more. I gotta think features matter as much as quality, warranty, or color.

Woodland Mills Model 88 with hydraulic feed. Excellent. Heavy. Works. Love it.

My cheapo chinese 8" chipper seems to have a built in coffee break timer. Something breaks down/plugs up every 15 minutes like clockwork.

Mine came with a mechanical belt drive feeder. Avoid these like the plague. It's now hydraulically driven and more reliable.

It's almost like building my own machine from scratch now. Funny part is that the machine was cheaper than me buying the raw metal and fabbing it up myself. I'm starting to think that would have been faster to build it from scratch vs the repairs/mods time.

Bottom line - get hydraulic infeed, swivel chute turner, and have the machine demonstrated how easy it is to pull off the shields to un-clog the chipper - in the field. Single point greasing without removing all the shields would be handy too.

I have the Jinma 8" chipper with the belt drive feeder & after 7 years of working it (hard at times) I have had a few problems with the drive for it.
Only had a clog 2 or 3 times and this thing EATS most everything I put in it.
To keep my 10 acres cleaned up, this is all I need.
For less then $1500 it has been well worth it to me.

I also have an 8" Jinma. Bought back in 2013?. No problems.
One point that was made to me a while after I bought it was that on those Jinma Chippers the difference between the 6" and 8" was just the opening. For the price I couldn't beat it.

As the others have said . A size or two larger than what is required with a hydraulic feed . It makes the difference of something going through with a thump and making the tractor lug down. Or something going through and bending/breaking the chipper .

I've had a MacKissic TPM-122 for about 13 or 14 years. It'll do up to 3 1/2" and will also shed leaves nicely, as it's a hammer and chipper unit combo. Main thing I like about it is that it's so easy to maintain. That's the key for any chipper unit. They do require maintainance. A TroyBilt Tomahawk that I had before was basically the same unit internally, but it was an absolute beast to maintain. I'd inherited it in the house we bought in Baton Rouge.

Yeah, it's not hydraulic feed, and it doesn't have a spout to direct shreddings. You have to scoop stuff out of the way every so often to your compost pile or back up and scoop it up in the FEL. I may be a nut, but I think it's great to shred and chip stuff with these with no clothes.
