Okay, this is kind of minor but the lack of respect just upsets me. I bought my 40 acres 4 and a half years ago. At the time, there was an adjacent property in foreclosure. I had my property surveyed and to avoid confusion I paid to add 1,300 feet of five strand barb wire fence to mark the property line between my land and the foreclosure property. The foreclosure sold and the new owner was okay but would trespass on my ground. There was an occasional game camera pic, my gate disturbed, a few beer cans left. When he put his property up for sale I noticed that a lot of the staples in the fence were gone. (The fence posts alternate between hedge and t-posts,). It was always in posts with easy foot access to him and almost always staples in the second, third and fourth strands.

Okay not that big a deal. A box of staples and a couple of hours and my fence was like new. Tension in the strands was very good.

New neighbors have been in a few months now. A young couple that is improving their property. Fenced in a portion of their 10 acres to contain their dogs. Seemed like a good situation until today.

Sigh, somebody from their property pulled the fourth strand up and 塗ung it on the top strand. All staples in place but they pulled it so hard they really stretched the fourth strand. Once I got it off the top strand it sagged badly. Day nah it. Not a huge deal, I値l figure out how to retention the strand.

I spoke with the new neighbor after I undid the hang up. The conversation was pleasant but the lady of the house admitted only that she had seen the damage and would mention it to her husband. I just asked that it not happen again. As I said, I値l figure out how to retension the wire. Well, at least they didn稚 set the field on fire with their fireworks.

Guess I知 just venting. Dag nab it. I was taught to respect others property. If it happens again, maybe I値l ask the husband to help me tighten the wire. If this is the worst problem I致e got, I guess I don稚 have problems.

When I bought adjoining land to mine last Fall there were cows on it. No big deal as I knew that neighbor for years. Then we heard and saw atv' s (kids). Then one day a bull! Seems another neighbors bull wanted to get to the cows so he tore a hole in fence. The cow owner said that was ok!!!!!???
Then hunters. That was the last straw. I told my wife what did I buy...a public park!
So I put signs up, everything had to go. (I told wife I had to put up a wall...on our southern border ).
So far so good. Now new fence is going up.
Like you said, people are so different now than years ago it seems. As a kid I would visit neighbors, ask permission, etc.
People don't talk anymore like they used to.
Thanks for letting me vent!

I finally had to put a chain and padlock on my outer gate. The hunters just ignored the LARGE No Trespassing sign on the outer gate.

Final straw, for me, - - hunters parked at outer gate - drank all their beer - threw all the empties on the driveway at the outer gate - then dumped their ashtray there at the gate also.

And, yet, they wonder why private lands are being closed to hunting and fishing - - are they REALLY that clueless.

I guess I'm just lucky that none of them had to take a crap.

People are unbelievable and amazing nowadays! I've had the following:

1) Person asked me, "I'm going to be putting a 40'x40' pole building up on your property over there. I'm sure you don't have a problem with that? YES, I DO!!!! This was 80 feet on my side of the property line. This guy asked again a month later. I guess he has a hearing problem.
2) While we were away. Another individual staked off an area of our land for a house and building, 5 acre area. He went to the town to start subdividing process. Sent a real estate agent to see me to offer low ball number for the property. I was not happy about this!
3) Different individuals physically moving property line markers to expand their lawn. Moved anywhere from 10 to 30 feet.
4) Illegal hunters, hunters, hunters!!!
5) Horse riders from a stable using our trails w/o permission.
6) Trespassers going for hikes on our trails claiming they had permission from the land owners. Dirt bikes, snowmobiles, UTVs, ATVs, etc...
7) People dumping things on the property from sofa to tires, cinder blocks, wood, etc....
8) Individuals cutting down our trees to access our land. These trees had our No Trespassing signs nailed to them.

After 18 years, pretty much have it under control. But, there are always surprises!
