Okay, this is kind of minor but the lack of respect just upsets me. I bought my 40 acres 4 and a half years ago. At the time, there was an adjacent property in foreclosure. I had my property surveyed and to avoid confusion I paid to add 1,300 feet of five strand barb wire fence to mark the property line between my land and the foreclosure property. The foreclosure sold and the new owner was okay but would trespass on my ground. There was an occasional game camera pic, my gate disturbed, a few beer cans left. When he put his property up for sale I noticed that a lot of the staples in the fence were gone. (The fence posts alternate between hedge and t-posts,). It was always in posts with easy foot access to him and almost always staples in the second, third and fourth strands.

Okay not that big a deal. A box of staples and a couple of hours and my fence was like new. Tension in the strands was very good.

New neighbors have been in a few months now. A young couple that is improving their property. Fenced in a portion of their 10 acres to contain their dogs. Seemed like a good situation until today.

Sigh, somebody from their property pulled the fourth strand up and 塗ung it on the top strand. All staples in place but they pulled it so hard they really stretched the fourth strand. Once I got it off the top strand it sagged badly. Day nah it. Not a huge deal, I値l figure out how to retention the strand.

I spoke with the new neighbor after I undid the hang up. The conversation was pleasant but the lady of the house admitted only that she had seen the damage and would mention it to her husband. I just asked that it not happen again. As I said, I値l figure out how to retension the wire. Well, at least they didn稚 set the field on fire with their fireworks.

Guess I知 just venting. Dag nab it. I was taught to respect others property. If it happens again, maybe I値l ask the husband to help me tighten the wire. If this is the worst problem I致e got, I guess I don稚 have problems.

Those of us who grew up in farming country, and had the experience of fixing fence, tend to be somewhat respectful to the owner's fences...city folks not so much. Besides, word gets out, and you may want to hunt that property another day.

When I bought adjoining land to mine last Fall there were cows on it. No big deal as I knew that neighbor for years. Then we heard and saw atv' s (kids). Then one day a bull! Seems another neighbors bull wanted to get to the cows so he tore a hole in fence. The cow owner said that was ok!!!!!???
Then hunters. That was the last straw. I told my wife what did I buy...a public park!
So I put signs up, everything had to go. (I told wife I had to put up a wall...on our southern border ).
So far so good. Now new fence is going up.
Like you said, people are so different now than years ago it seems. As a kid I would visit neighbors, ask permission, etc.
People don't talk anymore like they used to.
Thanks for letting me vent!

Okay that a bull tears a hole in your fence to get cows that you allow to be there?! Ouch. Hope the owners of those bovine properly fixed the fence. The suggestion of an electric fence seems appropriate even if it does add a layer of maintenance. Sorry you are going through that.

Game cam.

I put up a game cam the first time a strand was hung up on the top strand. (Yes, the incident I'm bugged about is a second occurrence. It's the one that led me to discovering the missing staples.) That one I suspected the previous owner or the listing agent but maybe it was the guy who originally bought it. I hung a couple of no trespassing signs and watched that spot closely for a couple of months without seeing any sign of further damage and trespassing. I need to check that camera just to be sure.

I probably will hang a couple more cameras but for the recent occurrence there is no place to hang one. My side there is open hay pasture.

The funny part here is I'm the city kid but I was always taught to respect others' property. I'm pretty sure the new neighbors are country folk. The more I think I about it, I'm going to ask the husband to help me re-tension that strand. I've never used a fence puller before. Maybe I'll use a piece of pipe to twist the strand tight and slide a piece of rebar in to hold it once tight. If he says no, gets defensive or aggressive I won't make a big issue; just repeat that I don't want it happening again. If he needs to cross the line to get a child's toy or something, fine, go get it, just don't damage my fence.

Man every time one of these threads on neighbor troubles comes up I just thank my lucky stars. Neighbors are good people. He helped me with a minor tractor repair. So I helped him set a bunch of T-posts on a hot day. He has deer eating his new plantings. He was pounding the posts in by hand. Taught him how to do w tractor bucket.
