Hello all,

Another newbie here posting for the first time. While I have considerable experience with mechanical things(30 yrs as diesel tech) I don't have a lot of tractor experience. I an going to buy a SCUT in the next couple of weeks. I will be using it mostly for loader work and snow removal. I am trying to decide if industrial tires or turfs would be better. I realize that it is probably a trade off loosing some thing either way. I have heard that turfs are better on snow and ice but wondering if it is that much of a difference, or maybe just go with Ind tires and chains if needed. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you Ford850,

This helps I think I will just go with R4's and chain up if I need to. I will probably do more loader work in the summer than I will snow removal in winter.

There's a lot of factors that determine what type of "traction" one will get on a given surface.
....but one factor that usually increases traction is weight.

If you go R4's may consider loaded rear tires, also check to see if you need wheel spacers using rear chains on R4's.

R4's suck in the snow (and mud) - treads fill quick and you're done! Chains are heavy to install and hard on the driveways. I went with R1's and never looked back...don't need chains. add as much weight as you can to your tractor when pushing snow - front & back.

R1's(Ag) are my choice, next would be Turf's ,then R4.Our tractors are used for snow removal and dirt work.My BIL has a L3300 set up with Turfs and does really well with it.R4's will have more weight rating but don't do well when it gets slick.

R4's are a pain in the butt to put chains on and they don't like mud and snow very well.
Think of truff's as mud/snow tires

Thanks for all the advice. Lots to think about and decide - what tractor to buy, what tires to put on it, etc, etc.
