Hello,
I own a CK30 2005.

It is leaking oil from a cracked rear transmission case. I'll probably fix it with a JB Weld product unless you guys have a better idea. Replacing the part is out of my budget.

And since I have the pto shaft removed, would you change the pto shaft bearings as a preventive maintenance? I don't have any issues with it so far. The tractor does have 1200hrs.

Thank you for your comments.

What is supported on the lower two studs anything? Interesting place to crack. If that lower section supports a lot of weight then it should be welded otherwise JB should be fine...

Since it is apart I would probably replace the bearing if it has any noise when you spin it..

How far does the crack run? If you can locate the end of it you might want to drill it to stop it from going any farther.

I'd say find a good welder, but stay away from the machined surface, else, it won't seal properly, you'd have to send the part to a good machinist to mill the surface flat after welding if you weld that machined surface.. sometimes you get jobs pawned off to inexperienced machinists to save money, you never want that in this case!.. it would have to be done properly..

I had a busted case on my F series Kubota which is aluminum. After multiple times of JB weld not working I finally took it apart and had it welded.

Thank you for the comments. To answer the question about the stuts under the case, actually there is a hitch that is bolted under. Probably too much load on the hitch, caused it to crack. I bought it used and the previous owner tried to fix (hide) the crack with silicone. It worked for a few years before I found out about the defect. I assume that in order to weld the part I have to take it apart or can it be welded in place?

It may have to come apart to repair it, as pre and post heat is very important for welding cast iron properly. My suggestion would be to find the right welder who is skilled in welding cast iron, and ask him what he would prefer. The trickiest part here is finding a SKILLED cast iron welder. A welder who feels they can repair this crack, but with little cast iron experience, could make this problem much worse, where the right person for the job will make your life much easier.

This is very good advice. Not just anyone could weld that.
