Never tried the WiFi for calls and the service has no data plan...

So if someone sends a text with picture or even a emoji... I can't read it.

When I take a picture of something... I use WiFi to send by attaching the image to my e-mail...

For years we had pagers... worked EVERYWHERE

Then I had a NOKIA for 10 years that was very frustrating...

Last year I was given the new Moto ordered for someone else and it is much better...

Will pay more attention going forward...

That's the beauty of WiFi, it doesn't use any cell data. I have several WiFi areas that I frequent, including office, hotels, etc, and have the set to automatically connect. Then my calls and data are on their WiFi and I can go anywhere in those offices with no worries about weak cell coverage (as lone as they have good WiFi coverage) for calls or texts.

If you have a case on your phone try taking it off - some cell phone cases affect signal level, some significantly!

I set our iphones to use WiFi for calls and that works great for us. Our basement has zero cell coverage but with our WiFi we can get calls anywhere in the house. Once outside the phones roll to cell coverage. I connect to hospital WiFi when visiting too, and it works the same.
This......

iPhone and android both have the option to use wifi for calls and text when you are connected to a wifi network.
You usually have to enable it in settings.

So you could connect to your hospital wifi and your phone will work regardless of the cell network signal.

A simple solution is a cell signal repeater (a.k.a. booster). We use put them in buildings at work that have reception issues. It consists of an outdoor antenna that is mounted outside and then a wire is run into the building to a repeater mounted inside. If the problem is bad enough and a bunch of people complain, you might be able to get your employer to consider installing repeaters. The repeaters typically range in price from $300 to $2000 depending on the type needed for the building layout. We will drop a $300 unit in a large open area with a bunch of cubicles because there isn't any walls blocking the repeated signal in those areas. We have to use the larger units in areas with a bunch of walls. Who knows, your employer might be pretty receptive to the idea.

I'm all over the Hospital Campus including areas leased to medical groups...

The Hospital WIFI is quite good in the Hospital... but fades to nothing in areas leased by Medical Groups.

That said... I have never explored using it and will give it a try.

No case on my Cell... the one sent was the wrong size and it would have made the phone more bulky in my pocket... so far so good.

I think the explanation of the system being busy is plausible as why to voice mail... when I am in the building... this is why my message says if this call goes to voice mail my phone did not ring.

The repeater is a good idea.. My cell service is non-existent without one.. We had a tower about 20 miles from my house but some drunk decided to run into it & they took it down.. never to be reinstalled..
I called & complained & Verizon sold me a repeater/booster for $100.00..{reconditioned} & it works great.. I have it "unprotected" so everyone in the neighborhood can piggyback off of it.. I can get service up to 1/2 mile away from it..
